Anchor Container Services is a leading logistics player dealing with empty container warehouse, transportation, container survey and repair as per IICL standards, fabrication of GOH (garment on hanger) container, manufacturing of bunkhouse, car carriers, power pack and modification of container for special purposes as per customers’ requirements and sale/purchase of empty container.

Established 18 years ago Anchor Container Services is also a leading service provider in the field of container repair in the country. The team of the company is headed by chief engineers (M&R) along with a group of mechanical/marine engineers, IICL approved surveyors and technicians.

Anchor has a very strong list of reputed international shipping lines such as Maersk India, Evergreen Line, MSC India, CMA-CGM, and RCL. Happag Lloyd and many others are operating at ports, ICDs and CFS owned and operated by Container Corporation of India and Central Warehousing Corporation.

Keeping in view the requirement of shipping lines, the company has opened repair workshops in most of the ICDs, CFSs and private yards.

According to Sujoy Samaddar, MD, Anchor Container, apart from a strategically located yard, the company has a large pool of versatile and skilled staff having indepth and comprehensive knowledge of yard planning and also examining health of containers and repairs, which is available round the clock.

With an experience of 18 years in the above mentioned fields, the company ventured into warehousing at Dadri, Ludhiana and Mumbai. Within a span of three years, the company has created a niche for itself in this field as well. The yard is fully functional and is presently storing containers of leading shipping lines including American President Line (APL), IAL India, Happag Lloyd India, Freight Connection India, Zim Integrated Shipping, Maritime Services, CSAV Group, Chakiat Shipping Agencies, Goodrich Maritime, Perma Container Line, Fairdeal Shipping Agencies, James Makintosh, CMA-CGM Logistics Park (CCLP) and MSC Shipping Agency.

IATA forecasts cargo traffic decline of 13 per cent in 2009
 
According to International Air Transport Association (IATA), cargo demand is expected to decline by 13 per cent this year as compared to 2008. The association has revised latest forecast of December 2008, when it had expected a 5 per cent fall in cargo demand in 2009. The IATA has also stated that it expects the global air transport industry to record losses of $4.7 billion in 2009.

IATA believes that carriers in the Asia Pacific region continue to be hardest hit by the current economic turmoil and are expected to post losses of US$ 1.7 billion. The Middle East will be the only region with a demand growth in 2009 (+1.2 per cent).

DHL launches Economy Select service; offers 30% cost savings
 
DHL Express on March 24, 2009 launched its full suite of Intra-Asia, Economy Select service that will include outbound shipments in India and 17 other locations in Asia Pacific region.

DHL Economy Select service offers cost savings of up to 30 per cent, especially for shipments of over 45 kg. DHL Economy Select offers door-to-door delivery of non-time-sensitive outbound consignments within Asia Pacific at lower shipping costs. DHL said the added advantages are without any compromise in service quality or access to DHL’s inhouse customs expertise.

Grand Alliance, Zim tie-up on South China USEC service
 
Grand Alliance members Hapag-Lloyd, NYK and OOCL and Zim Integrated Shipping Services have agreed to cooperate on the service from South China to US East Coast via the Panama Canal. The joint operation is expected to begin from April 2009. The new port rotation will be at Kaoshiung, Shekou Hong Kong, New York, Norfolk and Savannah in a 56-day round trip. The new service will be operated with eight vessels of 4,200 TEU capacity each. Grand Alliance will provide five and Zim will provide three vessels respectively. Volumes from Indian ports will be transshipped at Hong Kong through feeder service.

Emirates SkyCargo receives B777F with 103 tonne capacity for its global operations
 
Recently, Emirates SkyCargo has taken delivery of the new generation Boeing 777 Freighter at Boeing’s Everett, Washington. From there it went directly to Hong Kong, where it was loaded with cargo bound for Dubai and beyond. According to the airline sources, the Boeing 777F will play an integral role in Emirates’ freighter fleet. It boasts the longest range capability of all twin engine jets, able to fly non-stop between Dubai and major cargo centres in the world with a full 103-tonne payload.
