TNS Express to
expand services to South India
Established in 1989, TNS
Logistics is strengthening its operation across the country and in the
overseas markets with its express wing called TNS Express. TNS Express is a
leading company in the express distribution and supply chain solutions in
India.
“Our advantage of seamless
connectivity across air, road, ocean and rail has resulted in a plethora of
offerings to the customers, which are unmatched in the industry,” said RK
Singh, managing director, TNS Logistics. According to Singh, TNS was the
first to run the parcel express train in India.
Besides, having a strong
network in India, the company also has a strong market presence in the Asia
Pacific region and SAARC countries through its tie-ups. Today, TNS has
offices in China, Singapore, Bhutan, Dubai, Hong Kong, Thailand, Nepal and
Sri Lanka and has plans to foray into other markets. In India, TNS is
planning to open offices in South India. The company will launch services
from Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Currently, TNS is
covering 611 districts in India.
TNS’s business model is
well-aligned with the customers’ need, which is the reason why the core
businesses have grown to meet the evolving needs of the customer. This has
resulted in consolidation of services and in the development of core and
critical infrastructure, thus propelling TNS to the forefront in the
logistics segment.
“As per the industry
demand, TNS decided to provide the single window solutions in the name of
TNS Express,” said Vinod Kachru, head, TNS Express. Now, the company is
planning to expand its network to the rural areas to tap new markets through
express distribution services.
TNS is expecting a
turnover of Rs 1500-2000 million in 2010, and it is likely to be Rs 6000
million by 2015. In 2008-09, the company has grown by 25-30 per cent. At
present, TNS has more than 3500 employees and a turnover of Rs 1000 million.

The crisis
has bottomed out and demand is rising steeply: Lufthansa Cargo
At the company’s annual press conference, Carsten Spohr, chairman and CEO,
Lufthansa Cargo emphasised that ongoing market developments are giving rise
to a degree of optimism for 2010. The crisis has bottomed out and demand is
rising steeply. The carrier is experiencing a marked upswing especially in
Asia. He also informed that despite recession in 2009, Lufthansa managed the
crisis. According to him, only early capacity cuts and comprehensive crisis
management had averted appreciably higher losses, enabling the company to
keep its entire staff on board. Spohr maintained that compared to previous
year, Lufthansa Cargo lost a billion Euros in revenues, plunging the company
into an absolutely exceptional situation.

Mark Khambatta is the new
country manager for UPS in India
Recently, the express cargo major UPS announced the appointment of Mark
Khambatta as country manager for India. Khambatta will have overall
responsibility for UPS’s express and supply chain operations in India. Prior
to his new appointment, he was the country manager for UPS’s supply chain
operations in India. He was also responsible for managing UPS’s supply chain
operations in the Philippines, Guam and Saipan. UPS has also appointed
Vikram Mansukhani as operations manager for its joint venture. In this
capacity, Mansukhani has responsibility for the day-to-day express
operations of the company.

TIACA
offers free memberships to shippers across the world
The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has announced that shippers,
the end customers of the global air cargo supply chain, would be provided
free membership of the association, so that they can interact with air cargo
service providers across the world. TIACA says it will provide a forum to
shippers to get close to the existing and prospective air logistics partners
to exchange ideas, discuss changing needs and challenges, and to develop new
business opportunities. TIACA’s free membership offer defines shippers as a
manufacturer, wholesaler/distributor, retailer, or the ultimate
importer/original exporter.

Reliance
Venture invests in Reverse Logistics, keen to strengthen supply chain
services
Reliance Venture Asset Management, India’s first
and largest corporate venture capital firm and an arm of the Reliance ADA
Group, has announced that it has completed the first round of venture
funding in Reverse Logistics Co, a technology enabled end-to-end reverse
supply chain solutions company. Founded in 2008, Reverse Logistics Co. uses
its proprietary technology to help its customers reduce supply chain costs,
increase asset recovery and improve productivity. According to Harshal J.
Shah, CEO, Reliance Venture Asset Management, the reverse logistics space is
fairly untapped but a promising sector and will revolutionise efficiency
levels of the fragmented Indian supply chain.

Supply Chain Leadership Council introduces 'Eventsment Banking' for logistics
companies
Supply Chain Leadership Council (SCLC) has taken a pioneering initiative
called ‘Eventsment Banking’, which is a take on investment banking programme.
This concept that aims to shorten and economise the private equity raising
process by creating an opportunity for logistics companies for direct
interaction with investors. The investor panel comprises a group of
investors interested in allocating capital in logistics services and
infrastructure. The first edition of this event was held in March in Mumbai.
SCLC is planning to organise more events in the near future. SCLC is also
organising ‘Rural and Small Town Supply Chain Summit’ on April 23 in Mumbai.
