Emirates announces increase of flights to India

Responding to the booming trade ties and escalating travel between Dubai and India, Emirates has announced plans to increase its Indian operation with 18 additional flights per week, effective July1, 2008.The airline will step up its frequencies to New Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad, resulting in its Indian operation to 132 flights per week, the highest ever frequency for an international carrier in the Indian skies.

Cargo movement is also expected to gain momentum as the increased capability (over 300 tonnes per week) supports the growing export of garments, meat products, fruits and vegetables, machinery and spares to Middle East, Africa and Europe.

Panagia quits Cargoitalia, new board of directors formed

Massimo Panagia, the founder and COO & MD, Cargoitalia recently announced that he was leaving Cargoitalia after accomplishment of a successful launch of the company that has now entered into its phase of consolidation.

In the recent yearly shareholder’s meeting of Cargoitalia, the company appointed a new board of directors. Holger van den Heuvel and Paolo Giacometti have taken over as president and CEO, and CFO and director respectively. The new board has decided to further consolidate Cargoitalia’s important market share and to rapidly improve its operating results in order to achieve short term break-even. The Company has recently applied for new traffic rights to destinations in South Africa, Middle East and Latin America.

Greenfield airports in Karnataka acquire 'in principle' approval

In its first meeting, the Steering Committee on Greenfield Airports granted `in principle’ approval to the proposals of the government of Karnataka to set up Greenfield airports at Gulbarga, Bijapur, Hassan and Shimoga. The `in principle’ approval is, however, subject to the conditions that Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) would be formalised between DGCA, AAI and ministry of defence regarding air space management for the airports at Gulbarga and Bijapur in view of the existing defence operations at Pune and Bidar.

The meeting was headed by  Ashok Chawla, secretary, ministry of civil aviation, and had representatives of ministry of home affairs, ministry of defence, deptt. of economic affairs, deptt. of revenue, planning commission, Indian Meteorological Department, Airports Authority and DGCA.

Robert G.Sutton appointed as India COO, DHL Exel Supply Chain

DHL has announced the appointment of Robert G. Sutton as chief operating officer of its supply chain business unit. He takes over from Rajeev Rajadhyaksha, managing director of DHL Lemuir Logistics, who has retired from DHL. Based in Mumbai, Sutton will be responsible for all aspects of DHL's supply chain activities, in particular leading the strategic development of DHL's supply chain and solutions network to both drive and support the company's growth plans.

Adani Logistics plans to launch ICDs across the country

Adani Logistics is reportedly planning to launch 14 inland container depots (ICDs) across the country by 2010. The investment for the project is likely to be over Rs 1,000 crore. In the meanwhile, the company has launched two projects at Patli in Haryana and Kishangarh in Rajasthan.

The new projects have been planned to come up in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Ludhiana, Kolkata and Nagpur. Adani Logistics is also planning to offer Customs-bound air cargo services at some of the mega ICDs. The ICDs will have licence to handle both exim and domestic cargo as well as distribution centres.

Emirates Shipping Line participates in Art Container Project

With an objective of being a good corporate citizen and to provide service to the local community, Emirates Shipping Line has announced its participation in Art Container Project, a unique international project showcasing Hong Kong’s home-grown arts and culture to different parts of the world.

Emirates Shipping Line is the official carrier for the project organised by Merely Independent Artists (MIA) to transport 37 containers featuring original works of art by 38 of Hong Kong’s top local artists on the Line’s scheduled services over the next 3 years. This project is carried out in collaboration with Asia Container Leasing (ACL). The art containers will embark on individual journeys to different ports within the Line’s network, where events and cultural exchange exhibitions will be launched to enrich the project anchoring on the theme and sharing Hong Kong art.

NHAI signs concession agreement for 6-laning of a road stretch in Andhra Pradesh

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a concession agreement for 6-laning of 82.5 km long Chilkaluripet-Vijayawada Section (km 355.00-km 434.150) of NH-5 in the State of Andhra Pradesh under NHDP Phase-V. The project has been awarded on BOT (toll) basis on DBFO pattern.

The total project cost is Rs. 675.38 crores and the concession period is 15 years including construction period of two and half years. The project has adequate provision of Bridges, fly-overs, vehicular under passes, ROBs, pedestrians under passes, and Automatic Traffic counter, Variable Message Signs and Closed Circuit Telephone Cameras. There will be a 152.5 km long service road on both sides throughout the project.
