Mumbai-based Flyjac Logistics has signed a contract with Four Soft, a global leader in software solutions, for implementing the purchase order management software, 4S ePOMS across Flyjac’s multiple locations and its agents located around the world. Flyjac is an existing client of Four Soft and one of the largest logistics companies in India, with offices and agents across the world. 4S ePOMS is a web-based collaborative portal for logistics service providers. It would help Flyjac Logistics to track shipments of their partners, customers and vendors.

Maersk Logistics and Damco to merge as new industry force
 
On September 7, 2009 Maersk Group will merge its supply chain management activities branded as Maersk Logistics with its freight forwarding activities branded Damco under a single brand name Damco. Under the new single brand, the group’s primary drivers remain its passion for customers and its dedication to service delivery, said Rolf Habben-Jansen, CEO, Maersk Logistics and Damco. The newly formed Damco will continue to offer customers a broad range of logistics services from forwarding and time-sensitive reefer logistics to advanced supply chain management solutions and consultancy. In the interim period between June and September 7, the supply chain services will continue to be delivered under the Maersk Logistics brand, and the forwarding services will continue to be delivered under Damco brand.

Shree Shubham Logistics & Kalpataru Group company opens 5th Agri-logistics Park
 
Shree Shubham Logistics based in Mumbai and Kalpataru Group launched its fifth agri-logistics park in Jodhpur which aims at providing world class warehousing and storage facilities. The fifth agri-logistics park is spread over 4 lakh sq ft area with a capacity of 20,000 tonnes. CII to organise training on supply chain risk management in Chennai on July 18
 
With the development of modern enterprises into more complex supply chains, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will organise a one day training programme on Business Continuity Management on July 18. The training will cover a supply chain risk management perspective to march towards a more resilient company. The training programme will have two sessions. Session 1 will cover significance of supply chain and the need for integration, while Session 2 will discuss risk management. In recent years, there has been significant number of crises resulting in economic losses, loss of market share and loss of reputation of a number of companies. Several crises could have been avoided with better preparedness. Therefore, efficient and well rehearsed business continuity management is needed to cope with supply chain risks.

Container inspection procedure minimised from 100 to 20 per cent at Kochi port
 
The customs authority at Kochi port has relaxed its norm of 100 per cent inspection of import containers to 20 per cent. According to the new regulation, the EDI system at the port would randomly select the number of containers for examination and the concerned customs officer would announce the number of containers to be opened for examination. After the examination of selected container, customs would clear the entire lot of containers mentioned in the bill of entry. The sources said that though 100 per cent inspection procedure was initiated earlier from the security point of view, many firms complained that huge volumes handled and lack of adequate infrastructure at the port are major impediments for full inspection.

Government of India to award Rs 3,313 crore worth port-related projects
 
As part of the first 100-day action programme of the UPA government, the shipping ministry would award projects worth Rs 3,313 crore for developing container and cargo terminals at various ports in India. The ministry said that within the next 100 days, it would issue Letter of Award for six port development projects. The six projects to be awarded during the next 100 days include the development of a container terminal at Ennore, north of Chennai; construction of deep draft iron ore berth at Paradip Port, Orissa; another project at Paradip for construction of deep draft coal berth; conversion of a general cargo terminal into a container terminal at Tuticorin Port; setting up of mechanised iron ore handling facilities at New Mangalore Port, Karnataka; and development of berth for handling bulk cargo at Mormugao Port, Goa.
