Recently, the company has started handling of export cargo to Bangladesh through surface transport. The company will also focus more on import cargo, primarily from far- east and south Asia. “We are now in the process of deputing overseas agents for sending import cargo to India by availing of the services provided by our company,” shared Rajeev Sharma, managing director, Sahyog Group.

“Sahyog Logistics Solutions is to fulfill multiple demands of its clients most economically, effectively and efficiently,” added Sharma. With this objective in mind, the company has also launched a recruitment division to cater to the demand of trained manpower required by the exporters and importers in India. “There is a mismatch between the demand and supply of efficient persons for dealing with export/import documents. We primarily source the candidates from various institutions and offer placement for them after giving further training without taking any charges. “We do not charge anything from the candidates,” said Sharma. The placement division is being run under Sahyog Business Solutions of the Sahyog Group Company.

Commenting on the future plans of the company, Sharma maintained that the company would venture out for warehousing and distribution logistics business. “We will launch a warehouse in Greater Noida, tentatively in the next year, which will be followed by more warehouses in the NCR region,” said Sharma. Sahyog Logistics’ major clients are from automotive, engineering and steel sectors.

“Our mission is to take customer's satisfaction level at its pinnacle while providing them the efficient and effective services in most economical way,” asserted Sharma. Air India to resume flights to Australia by operating direct and daily services between Delhi and Melbourne
 
In view of the huge demand for direct flight between India and Australia, Air India has decided to resume its services between Delhi and Melbourne expectedly from late October or early November this year. Air India will be resuming services to Australia after a lapse of over a decade. Apart from increase of passenger traffic, the services will also explore cargo movement between the two countries. The services will be operated with B-777 aircraft on a daily basis. Air India will also set up a regional office at Melbourne, to look after the sales and operations in Australia.

Des Vertannes takes over as IATA global head for cargo
 
Recently, Des Vertannes, an experienced air cargo professional has been appointed as International Air Transport Association (IATA) global head for cargo. Vertannes’ four decades experience includes his association with various airlines. Before the present assignment, he was with Etihad, where he was executive vice president cargo since April 2007. Prior to that, Vertannes worked with Gulf Air and Air Canada. Vertannes began his professional career with British Airways in 1970. He also worked with the ground handling company, Menzies Aviation.

DHL to invest USD 10 million in the Free Trade Warehousing zone in Tamil Nadu
 
DHL has announced a USD10 million investment by its freight forwarding division to establish a logistics and warehousing facility in the upcoming Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) in Tamil Nadu. DHL Global Forwarding will be operating a facility within the FTWZ that offers customers the benefits of a duty free zone. According to Amadou Diallo, chief executive officer, South Asia Pacific, DHL Global Forwarding, this will streamline customs procedures and make trading easier for DHL’s customers in India.

Blue Dart launches 'Express Pallet' to offer domestic packaging solution
 
Blue Dart has unveiled a packaging solution called 'Express Pallet' for its domestic customers. According to the Blue Dart sources, Express Pallet is a weather-resistant, safe, secure and affordable door-to-door packaging solution and ideal for heavier shipments. It is built to accommodate shipments ranging from 30kgs to 100kgs. The design and structure allows the same box to be adjusted into three different sizes with capacities of 50 kgs, 75 kgs and 100 kgs.

Apeejay Infralogistics will set up logistics parks in Haldia and Kalinganagar in 2010

Apeejay Infralogistics, a joint venture between Apeejay Surrendra Group and Eredene Capital, UK, has announced that the company is planning to commission the first phase of its two integrated logistics parks at Haldia (West Bengal) and Kalinganagar (Orissa) towards the end of this year. The Haldia integrated logistics park is estimated to cost Rs 2000 million and would be spread over an area of 90 acres while the logistics park in Kalinganagar, would cost Rs 600 million and cover 30 acres.

CMA CGM and Maersk Line jointly launch CIMEX 2 service for India market

Recently, CMA CGM has joined hands with Maersk Line to launch the new CIMEX 2 service linking Asia/China to India. CIMEX 2 will also establish connections with Pakistan. The port rotation for the proposed service will be: Kwangyang-Busan-Shanghai-Hong Kong-Da Chan Bay-Tanjumg Pelepas-Colombo-Pipavav-Nhava Sheva-Port Qasim-Port Klang-Tanjung Pelepas-Singapore-Hong Kong-Kwangyang. The service, to be operated with six vessels of 5,500 TEUs each, started from Kwangyang on June 13 and the Shanghai call will start on July 8.

The service will connect the inland container depot at Dadri and other inland destinations in India.

Ministry of shipping declares Port Blair as a Major Port
 
Under the Indian Ports Act, 1908, the ministry of shipping, government of India has declared the Port Blair Port with its territorial jurisdiction over all ports of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, as a major port from June 1, 2010. As a result, the Port Blair Port becomes the 13th major port of the country. The other major ports are Kolkata (including Dock Complex at Haldia), Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Tuticorin, Cochin, New Mangalore, Mormugao, Jawaharlal Nehru, Mumbai, Kandla and Ennore.
