Improve air cargo competitiveness, says IATA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) called
on the air cargo supply chain to coordinate efforts to drive an industry
agenda for change that will improve customer service and competitiveness.
Speaking at the association’s recently held second World Annual Cargo
Symposium in Rome, Giovanni Bisignani, director general and CEO, IATA said
that sea competitors were gaining market share with faster ships, lower
prices and innovative solutions. This apart, new capacity coming into the
market (200 to 300 wide bodies entering the market each year to 2011) will
put even greater pressure on yields.
BIAL to open new Bangalore airport after May 10
The government of India has asked the Bangalore
International Airport (BIAL) to consider a suitable date after May 10,
2008 for the opening of new airport at Devanahalli, Bangalore.
GHIAL gets nod for commercial operation from March 16
GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL)
promoted Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has received a Gazette of
India Notification issued by the ministry of civil aviation (MoCA) to
commence operations from 0001 hours on Sunday, March 16, 2008. According
to the GMR sources, the notification also confirmed the closure of
commercial operations at the existing Begumpet airport, Hyderabad from
March 16, 2008. This is in pursuance of Clause 5.5 of the Concession
Agreement signed between the Government of India and GHIAL on December 20,
2004, the sources said.
HALCON, a JV between Hindustan Aeronautics
Limited and CONCOR, is inaugurating its ICD and air cargo complex at
Janori Village, Nashik, on March 15. Defence minister AK Antony will be
chief guest, while Pradeep Kumar, secretary in the defence ministry, and
Ashok Baweja, chairman, HAL, will be guests of honour. The air-sea cargo
complex is managed by Clarion Solutions, a wing of Transworld Group of
Companies, Mumbai.
Shipping, air and logistics major LCL Agencies
Private Limited, Mumbai, inaugurated its own logistics park on March 14 at
Pipavav Port 4, Way, Rajula, Gujarat. Constructed through LCL’s own fund
resources, the logistics park will have all state-of-the-art facilities,
said Unni Nair, chairman and managing director, LCL Agencies.
GAC India has
inaugurated a new 20,000 sqft 3PL facility at Bhiwandi to meet the demands
of the growing consumer markets in and around Mumbai. Strategically
located and close to main Mumbai-Nashik Highway, the fully equipped
warehouse has clear access to the entire Western India region. From the
Bhiwandi facility, GAC India is providing specialised 3PL warehousing and
distribution services for fast moving consumer goods, pharmaceuticals,
electronics, automobile parts, IT and related market sectors.
CII Institute of Logistics is launching a ‘5 Days Executive
– Weekend Training Programme on Supply Chain Management’ at Chennai.
Starting from April 19, 2008, the contact classes will be conducted during
four consecutive Saturdays of four sessions a day (April 19 and 26, and
May 3 and 10, 2008). On the 5th Saturday, objective type evaluation test
will be conducted (May 17, 2008) and certificates will be distributed.
Sessions will be handled by industry experienced faculty members and
expert lecturers from the field of logistics and supply chain. The content
delivery will be through power point presentations, playing supply chain
distribution game, video clippings and case studies. |
