Air Freight Institute announces ‘Industry Relations Action Plan’, questions IATA’s relevance for forwarders

At its recently held Zurich Headquarters meeting, Air Freight Institute (AFI) chairman Rudolfo Sagel (Argentina) announced a new direction in industry relations between the forwarders and air carriers. This is on the heels of IATA’s cargo agency conference which met on March 8, but failed to take a unanimous recommendation from the IATA/FIATA Consultative Council, to amend training accreditation to place FIATA and IATA on an equal footing. The chairman advised the delegates that the industry relationship between forwarder and airline must evolve to reflect today’s reality. According to him, IATA’s role should no longer be that of a regulatory body of the forwarders.
