JBS Academy
organises skill development programme for young entrepreneurs from December
21-24
JBS Academy, which is based in Ahmedabad, has initiated a specialised
programme called ‘Sharpening Entrepreneurial Skills of Gen Next’ for new
leaders in logistics service segment— 2nd and 3rd generation family members,
new entrants and CEO designates. The event will take place from December 21
to 24, 2010 in Ahmedabad. The course would be non-residential. According to
Samir J Shah, partner, JBS Group of Companies, JBS Academy will facilitate
residential accommodation and provide all transport facilities. The faculty
will include eminent personalities from IIM-A, Air India, SCI, IATA and
FIATA.
JBS Academy (JBSAPL) was founded by JBS Group, along with the collective
efforts of many educationists, scientists and social thinkers in the year
2000. JBSAPL is offering academic programmes at number of institutions for
over 3500 students annually.
The JBS Group was established in 1957. The company offers all forwarding and
logistic solutions under one roof. The group is comprised of four units—Jasvant
B Shah (licensed custom house agents), Star Freight (international freight
forwarders; multi modal transport operators; IATA air cargo agents;
warehousing), JB Shah Consultants (advisory, innovation, trading) and JBS
Academy (education, seminars and exhibitions).
Since 2000, the Group has also been undertaking computer education for
nearly 3500 students annually between the ages of 12 and 16, introducing
children from deprived backgrounds to computers.
Additionally, the Group along with Ahmedabad Management Association (India's
premier management training association set up more than five decades back
by the pioneer of India's technological revolution Dr Vikram Sarabhai) has
set up J B Shah-AMA Center for shipping and logistics with the aim of
providing professional leadership in shipping and logistics. The centre is
already functional. It also annually organises a "Mr J B Shah Memorial
Lecture" on current topics of logistics.

Logistics and ACAAI announce the launch of ‘UPLIFT’, a technology platform,
at 37th ACAAI Convention
Kale Logistics Solution has formally launched a common technology platform
called UPLIFT (Universal Platform for Logistics and Integrated Freight
Transport) in association with ACAAI at the 37th Annual Convention of the
Air Cargo Agents Association of India (ACAAI), held from November 25 to 28
in Bengaluru.
UPLIFT is a unique platform pioneered by air cargo industry to facilitate
electronic data exchange between all the stakeholders in the logistics value
chain. Convention, with the theme called “Air Logistics: Industry
Resurgence”, was addressed by S Gurumurthy (economist) as key note speakers,
MR Venkatesh (economist), H Rana (Air India), Tony Nothman (BAWC), Tom
Wright (Cathay Pacific), Oliver Evans (Swiss International), Anshuman Singh
(Future Supply Chain Solution), Desmond Vertannes (IATA), Marcel
Hungerbuehler (BIAL), Pradeep Panicker (DIAL), VK Monga (AAI), Yashwant
Bhave (AERA), Ennarasu Karunesan (Chennai Container Terminal), Dheeraj

Private air
cargo terminal operators form ‘Handlers Association of India’
Four private ground handling companies and air cargo terminal operators
in India viz CSC India, Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India,
Menzies Aviation Bobba (Bangalore) and Hyderabad Menzies Air Cargo has
formed a new platform called Handlers Association of India (HAI). The patron
of the association is Tushar Jani, chairman, CSC India. Formed in Bengaluru
on November 27, the association’s office bearers are Radharamanan Panicker (CSC
India), president; Paul Smith (Hyderabad Menzies Air Cargo), vice president;
Sanjay Khanna (Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India), secretary
general and Manoj Singh (Menzies Aviation Bobba- Bangalore), treasurer.
Speaking to Cargo Talk Jani informed that the objective of the association
was to bring in latest cargo handling technologies at the airports through
joint initiatives, to offer smooth and world standard services.

World’s international air
cargo traffic grows by 24%; India to grow by more than 7% in 2010: Boeing
Forecast
According to the Boeing World Air Cargo Forecast 2010/2011 released at the
recently held International Air Cargo Forum and Exhibition 2010 in
Amsterdam, air cargo traffic bounced back strongly beginning in November
2009 and continued through the first eight months of 2010. As a result,
world air cargo traffic is expected to regain its 2007 peak by the end of
this year. The Boeing Forecast also underlined that the first eight months
of 2010 have seen an estimated 24 per cent growth in traffic, compared to
the same period in 2009. The Boeing Forecast also unveiled that India's air
cargo market is recovering in 2010. In 2009 it grew by 7 per cent.

Acumen Overseas appointed as GSA for Korean Air
Recently, Korean Air signed an agreement for General Sales Agent (GSA)
services with Acumen Overseas in New Delhi. In accordance with this
arrangement, Acumen will provide the full range of GSA services across India
for both passenger and cargo divisions of the airline, with effect from
December 1, 2010. At present, Korean Air operates passenger flights to Seoul
from Mumbai and Freighters from Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai. Korean Air, with
headquarters in Seoul, flies to 118 destinations in 38 countries. They have
a fleet of 105 modern passenger and 27 cargo aircraft.

Service Center to open new terminals in Mumbai and Delhi airports by March
2011
The ongoing two
cargo terminal projects in Mumbai and Delhi airports would be ready for
operation by December 1, 2010 and March 2011 respectively, informed
Radharamanan Panicker, CEO, Cargo Service Center. The facility built in
Mumbai is a 2000 sq meters (to be later expanded to 3000 sq meters)
Perishable Cargo Terminal. It would be able to process and handle 50000 MT
(to be later expanded to 70000 MT) of cargo per annum. The 70000 sq meters
Greenfield Air Cargo Complex at Delhi airport is consisting two
terminals. The complex will entail an investment of USD 80 million and will
have the capacity to handle close to 1 million MT of cargo, when fully
completed.

Panvel
Apollo LogiSolutions has invested in
a state-of-the-art CFS facility in Panvel near Mumbai to cater to cargo
moving in and out of Mumbai Port and JNPT (Nhava Sheva). This facility is
located alongside the national highway network and equipped with
state-of-the-art equipment and information technology to facilitate EXIM
trade under one roof. Apollo LogiSolutions offers cargo handling and
consolidation facilities that are designed to expedite customers’ supply
chains. The company currently focuses on facility and transportation
management for imports and exports and equipment rental.

Aegis Logistics and APM Terminals to jointly build petrochemical
logistics complex at Pipavav Port
Aegis Logistics, a leading company in
oil, gas and chemical logistics, recently entered into a deal with APM
Terminals Pipavav to sub-lease close to 100 acres of land for
building a global oil and petrochemicals storage complex. This was announced
at a joint press conference hosted by both companies in Mumbai. Aegis will
invest up to $90m in building a 600,000 KL oil terminal complex in Port
Pipavav.

SCI to get 62 new vessels, 29 to be delivered by 2012
As per the 11th Plan vessel
acquisition programme, the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has planned
for acquisition of 62 vessels. Out of which, as of mid November 2009, SCI
has been able to order 29 vessels including three vessels that have been
delivered. The balance 26 vessels will be delivered to SCI during the
next 2 years. The remaining 33 vessels out of the 62 vessels are planned to
be ordered by March 2012.
