What does it take to be a market leader? We would say
- an informed outlook, which is backed by sound experience.
These have been the pre-requisites on which Durga Das
Publications has not only pioneered niche travel publications
in India, South Asia and Middle East, but has also grown
strength to strength in providing news and information
to an ever- growing reader fraternity.
Making a foray into travel-related publishing
as early as 1984, Durga Das Publications Private Limited
(DDPPL), for more than twenty years, has successfully
realised a number of renowned publications, transforming
itself as a leading publication house for the travel
trade as well as the government.
Beginning with a Handicrafts India Year Book magazine,
which is still the only publication of its kind in India,
it later added a newspaper of the crafts industry called
Crafts Times. DDPPL then diversified into the travel
industry through a book called India Travellers Kit.

The success of this publication saw the emergence of
Trav Talk, the only fortnightly newspaper of the travel
industry in South Asia, which has been awarded the best
travel trade publication by both leading travel trade
bodies of India, viz Indian Association of Tour Operators
(IATO) and Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI).
In 1992, the Government of India liberalised its aviation
policy and opened its domestic skies for private operators.
DDPPL was quick to realise the need for a domestic air
schedule, which was subsequently launched in 1993 -
The Travel Hour, a monthly publication, also the first
consumer magazine, the success of which led to another
publication Eating Out.
To fulfil the ever-growing needs of the Indian travel
industry, DDPPL launched an annual publication for international
tour operators called India-Best of the Best. By now,
DDPPL was a name to reckon with in the travel publishing
domain and it was no surprise when the Ministry of Tourism,
Government of India approached us to produce a periodical
which is targeted at the international tour operators.
Thus began Explore India, now renamed Incredible India.
With a liberalised economy and more disposable income,
Indians are travelling like never before either for
leisure or business. To bridge the information barrier
Durga Das Publications Private Limited launched Meetings
& Conventions (M&C), an incentive magazine for
the travel industry.
Subsequently, Durga Das Publications grew in strength
and gathered enough experience to venture into the international
arena. Our first initiative was Tashi Delek, the in-flight
magazine of Druk Air, Royal Bhutan Airlines. This
publication, apart from being the in-flight magazine,
has been recognised as a tourism magazine for Bhutan
and is distributed to all tour operators.
The next addition in this line was a hotel
corporation’s in-room magazine, ITDC’s India, which was produced
for ITDC, India’s largest hotel chain, also for
distribution through its duty free outlets at all international
Airports in India.
Durga Das Publication’s success in international
arena with Tashi Delek as well as Incredible India gave
way to Discover Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Tourism Board and
the Ministry of Tourism, Government of Sri Lanka enabled
DDPPL to produce their first magazine for International
tour operators.
Apart from this, Durga Das Publications Private Limited
has many firsts to its credit like producing the first
Conference Daily at the IATO Convention, producing the
first daily at the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI)
convention. It also produced the first IATO Manual,
which was distributed to international tour operators.
Besides, it regularly produces conference and show dailies
at various conferences, marts like the TAAI convention,
IATO convention, TAFI convention, Handicrafts Fair,
PATA conference, WTTC, ACCAI, amongst others.
Today, the Durga Das Publications brings out five
