Kingfisher launches new flights to Vadodara, Thiruvananthapuram,
Bhubaneswar, Aurangabad & Kozhikode
Kingfisher Airlines, recently announced the commencement of flights on five
new domestic routes as part of its Summer 2009 schedule that began on March
29, 2009. Of the five routes, the Hyderabad-Aurangabad route is a virgin
route and Kingfisher Airlines is the first airline to operate flights on
this route.
The five new routes launched by Kingfisher Airlines are:
Mumbai – Vadodara
Mumbai – Thiruvananthapuram
Hyderabad – Bhubaneswar
Hyderabad – Aurangabad
Bengaluru
– Kozhikode

IndiGo introduces
additional services from New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata Ahmedabad &
Vadodara
IndiGo recently announced the expansion of its route network with the
introduction of 11 new fights with effect from March 29. The new flights
will operate between New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
IndiGo has also introduced new timings to the existing flights operating
from New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. With the launch of these new
services, IndiGo currently operates 125 daily flights connecting 17
destinations.

Jet Airways launches
Chennai-Dubai daily flight from April 23
Effective April 23, 2009, Jet Airways will launch a new service to Dubai
from Chennai, as well as a second service on the Mumbai-Dubai sector. With
the launch of these new daily services, Jet Airways will now operate four
daily flights to Dubai from three major Indian metros. The airline currently
flies twice daily to Dubai from Mumbai and Delhi respectively. Jet has also
recently launched daily direct service to Kuwait from Mumbai. This is the
airline’s second daily service to Kuwait from India, complementing the
airline’s existing Kochi-Kuwait service. In addition to Dubai and Kuwait,
Jet Airways also operates daily flights to Bahrain, Muscat, Doha and Abu
Dhabi in the Gulf from several Indian cities.

160 foreign buyers from
40 countries confirmed for GITB, more to follow
The Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB), a three-day international travel
& tourism conference and exhibition from April 19 to 21, has so far received
confirmed participation from 160 foreign buyers from across 40 countries.
With event still a fortnight ahead the numbers of foreign buyers are
expected to further increase. So far 146 Indian sellers, including tour
operators, hotels and state tourism boards, have confirmed their
participation. Apart from Rajasthan, the other confirmed states to be
present at GITB are Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Maharashtra,
Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir and Jharkhand.

Addition of three more
properties takes the total count to four 'Zuri' brand in India
After the launch of first Zuri hotel, ‘The Zuri
Whitefield, Bengaluru’ last month, the new brand has further expanded with
inclusion of three more properties under the Zuri brand. Phoenix Group
Global (PGG), the owners and promoters of luxury resorts and business hotels
in India, Europe and Africa, recently announced that all its existing
properties will be brought under the Zuri Hotels and Resorts banner– the
Group’s flagship brand of luxury hotels launched in October 2008. This move
signifies the end of PGG’s seven years association with Carlson Group for
their 3 properties in India - Radisson Plaza Resort & Spa, Kumarakom;
Radisson White Sands Resort, Goa and Country Inn & Suites, Goa. The three
properties will now be known as The Zuri Kumarakom Resort & Spa, Kerala; The
Zuri Varca White Sands Resort & Casino, Goa and The Retreat by Zuri, Goa.

Uniglobe Travel appoints
new franchisee in Guwahati - Shivani Aviates
Uniglobe Travel (South Asia) expanded its network by giving its
franchisee to Shivani Aviates, a Guwahati based travel agency. Shivani
Aviates has its strong presence in corporate as well as leisure travellers.
The agency has been in the travel business for more than 14 years and is one
of the largest travel companies in Guwahati with two locations. According to
Ritika Modi, regional president, Uniglobe Travel (South Asia), the addition
of this new franchisee sees the Uniglobe group turnover in India achieving
beyond Rs 850 crore with a total strength of 41 franchisee locations
India-wide. Globally, Uniglobe has a network of over 700 franchisee
locations in 40 countries.

Abacus introduces new web
services to boost travel agents' productivity
Leading GDS company Abacus International has launched three new
‘orchestrated web services’ on Abacus WebConnect that enable travel agencies
to achieve faster customer response time and improved cost efficiencies on
their websites. According to the company sources applicable for all its
operational areas including India, an orchestrated web service combines
multiple transactions into a single web service call, which reduces the
development effort and improves response time. The three new orchestrated
web services are: PNR Builder which combines the creation of passenger data
and itinerary booking; enhanced air book service which consolidates

Galileo to distribute,
manage and book Cox & Kings' travel services
Recently, Galileo in India has entered into
an exclusive agreement with Cox & Kings to distribute, manage and book
travel management services for the latter company’s customers in India.
Effective April 1, 2009 Galileo has partnered with Cox & Kings to promote
both air and non air contents. The GDS company will now enable Cox and Kings
to access content for over 450 airlines, 52 low cost carriers, 23 car rental
companies and 83,000 hotel properties worldwide. The agreement will present
a win-win situation for both the company. According to Galileo sources, the
company is optimistic that with their large destination management
experience the tie up will help it to increase its footprint in non-air
segments too. The sources also said that since Cox & Kings enjoys market
leadership in various segments of the travel and tourism domain and have a
strong sub-agency network in India, the alliance would further help Galileo
augment its distribution reach.
