Air transport grounded by ash cover in Europe
due to volcanic eruption in Iceland
The airspace is
currently not available for operation of civilian aircraft in Ireland, the
UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, the
north of France- including all Paris airports, parts of Germany including
Dusseldorf, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin and the airspace around Frankfurt,
parts of Poland including Warsaw airport due to the volcanic eruption in
Iceland. The statement released by Europe's intergovernmental air control
agency, Eurocontrol, reveals that the cloud of volcanic ash is continuing to
move east and south-east and that the impact will continue till the weekend.

Surat
The Roots
Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of Indian Hotels Company (Taj group),
launched its first budget hotel under the Ginger in Surat on April 13, which
also happens to be the third Ginger Hotel in Gujarat to further consolidate
its position in one of the fastest developing state of Gujarat. The said
98-room hotel is located off Dumas Road, near the popular Iskon mall. The
hotel has individually air-conditioned rooms equipped with electronic locks,
a work area, 20-inch LCD television with satellite channels, direct-dial
telephone including STD facility, mini-fridge, tea maker and posture-pedic
mattresses.

Royal Orchid opens its first property in
Mumbai
The Royal
Orchid Central Grazia-Navi Mumbai, a 70-room full-fledged business hotel is
Royal Orchid Hotel’s first in Mumbai and fifth in India. ROHL plans to open
two more properties in Mumbai by 2011, which include a 260-room property at
Powai to be opened by the end of this year and another property in North
Mumbai, which will be launched by 2011.

Starwood to debut 'Aloft' properties in June at
Bengaluru and Chennai
The
much-anticipated lifestyle brand of Starwood Hotels is set for debut in
India in June 2010, with the inauguration of Aloft Bengaluru and Aloft
Chennai. Starwood already has brands like Sheraton, Westin, Four Points by
Sheraton and Le Méridien operational in India. Now, the US-based behemoth is
keen on establishing its Aloft brand in India by 2012. The Indian
hospitality industry will see six Aloft Hotels in the next couple of years.

Hotels, a wholly owned subsidiary of ITC Ltd, flagged off its 34th property,
Fortune Inn Haveli in Gandhinagar. An upscale hotel situated right opposite
the Secretariat in the commercial and shopping hub at Sector 11, it boasts
of 84 well-appointed rooms. The hotel is 20-minute drive from Airport and
Ahmedabad City and 3-km from railway station. It also offers conference and

partners in India
With six
properties already in its kitty, Westin Hotels & Resorts is looking for new
partners to operate more properties in India. The group had opened its first
property in India on December 1, 2009 at Pune, quickly followed by Hyderabad
on December 21, and Mumbai on January 26, 2010. This year, Westin Gurgaon
will be opened in July and in 2012, Jaipur and Kolkata will have Westin
properties.

1793 visas issued during January-March 2010
under visa-on-arrival scheme
Under the scheme
of visa-on-arrival for citizens of five countries viz. Finland, Japan,
Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore that was launched in January, 1793
visas were issued between January to March. During this period, visas issued
were highest for Singapore in February (281), Finland in March (259), New
Zealand in February (181), Luxembourg in March (6) and Japan in March (119).
During these three months, the maximum number (957) of visas were issued at
Delhi airport followed by Mumbai (418), Chennai (342) and Kolkata (76).

Over 75% rooms out of 10981 'definite'
category rooms ready for Commonwealth Games
The findings of the high
level task force have revealed that over 75 per cent of the rooms have been
completed. The review of the task force indicated that over 8227 rooms have
been completed, which account for 75 per cent of the overall 10981 definite
rooms that are to be built. The high-level meeting of the Task Force was
held under the chair of Union minister of tourism, Kumari Selja on April 12.

over as vice chairman and managing director of BIAL respectively
The Board of
directors of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has announced
the appointment of GV Krishna Reddy as the vice chairman of the BIAL Board
and GV Sanjay Reddy as the company’s managing director. GV Krishna Reddy is
chairman of GVK Power and Infrastructure (GVKPIL) and has been a pioneer in
the infrastructure sector in India, having envisioned landmark projects
across power, road and airports. GV Sanjay Reddy, vice chairman, GVKPIL also
holds the position of managing director, Mumbai International Airport Ltd
(MIAL).

(Extremely Short Take Off and Landing) aircraft in India
InterGlobe General Aviation (IGGA), a group
company of InterGlobe Enterprises, has signed with Pacific Aerospace for the
exclusive sales of the P-750 XSTOL aircraft in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh
and the Maldives. The introduction of the P-750 will be the first XSTOL
(Extremely Short Take Off and Landing) aircraft to enter the region.
According to Nigel Harwood, president and CEO, InterGlobe General Aviation,
the performance of P-750 XSTOL makes this a perfect aircraft for the diverse
terrain of the region due to its extremely short take off and landing
capability in hot and high altitude conditions and exceptional payload
performance.

Eurail intensifies marketing in India, meets agents in Delhi and
Mumbai
Eurail Group GIE, which is an organisation to
sell Eurail passes across the world, is buoyant about its growth prospect
