Nasair launches India operation 
Saudi-based low-cost carrier, Nasair has launched India operations with four weekly flights to Mumbai from April onwards. It will gradually expand operations to Kochi, Kozhikode and Delhi in the coming months. Nasair is offering a special fare to celebrate the Mumbai launch with prices starting from $66.6. It will fly Riyadh to Mumbai on Saturdays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, while on return, the carrier will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Dragonair reinstates daily flights to Bengaluru
After cutting its flights to four-a-week in January 2009, Drangon Air, a member of the Cathay Pacific group, reinstated daily flights between Honk Kong and Bengaluru from last month. This is the only route in India where Dragon Air has operations.

Mumbai airport opens new domestic terminal 1C
 
On April 17 Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (MIAL) unveiled the new domestic passenger terminal 1C at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) in Mumbai. The terminal has six new passenger boarding bridges and offers seamless connectivity between terminals 1A and 1B. Spread over 2,97,194 sq. ft. across three levels, Terminal 1C will increase the passenger handling capacity of the domestic terminals while enhancing the overall passenger comfort and convenience.

ESOI to conduct 4th workshop on ecotourism in Bhopal on April 30- May 1
 
In pursuit of its objective of ‘Conserving Nature for future generations’, The Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI) has announced its fourth workshop on “Environmental Law & Responsible Tourism” on April 30-May 1, 2010 at Hotel Jehan Numa Place, Bhopal. During the two-day workshop, ESOI will discuss major issues related to wildlife and architectural norms. For the same, ESOI will bring in architects and lawyers to speak about eco-friendly architecture as well as environmental law.

Lalit K Panwar, an IAS officer of the 1979 batch, has been appointed chairman and managing director (CMD) of Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). Premier Inn acquires India Joint Venture
 
Whitbread PLC confirms that Premier Inn has completed the acquisition of the 50.1 per cent stake it did not already own in its joint venture with real estate developer Emaar-MGF. The joint venture was created in June 2007 to develop Premier Inn in the emerging Indian business hotel market. After two and a half years the joint venture has already opened its first hotel in Bangalore and has two further hotels under development in Delhi and Pune. Premier Inn will continue to operate the existing hotel and take forward the development of new properties independently.

MOT to press MHA to lower fee on visa-on-arrival
 
The Ministry of Tourism will take instance of higher fee on tourists’ visa-on-arrival with the Ministry of Home Affairs, as the visa-on-arrival scheme launched by the ministry of home affairs on a pilot basis in the month of January for five strategic source markets has started becoming popular with the inbound travellers in these countries. In the first three months since its launch, 1793 visas have been issued. During this period, visas issued were highest for Singapore in February (281), Finland in March (259), New Zealand in February (181), Luxembourg in March (6) and Japan in March (119).

Uttarakhand Tourism & RTDC sign MoU to mutually promote tourism
 
Uttarakhand has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) to sell each other's tourism products and ensure the visits of foreign and domestic travellers in both states all the year round. The MoU was signed by Rakesh Sharma, principal secretary, Tourism, Government of Uttarakhand & CEO, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) and Manjit Singh, chairman & managing director, RTDC in Jaipur.

Jharkhand to set up 10 resorts near key water bodies
 
The Jharkhand tourism has laid out an elaborate plan to attract large numbers of inbound visitors by creating a blend of luxury near its key water bodies. Barely a few kilometers from the capital city Ranchi, Jharkhand has been blessed with numerous water bodies that are the best in the world. While the overall aim of gradually building resorts near all key water bodies, Jharkhand has Initially decided to develop 10 such resorts at key locations at an expense of about 2-2.5 crore on each project.
