No airport development fee for Delhi and Mumbai: Supreme Court
 
Travel agents and travellers have welcomed the decision of Supreme Court order stopping the collection of airport development fees. The court had asked the operator of Mumbai airport not to levy passengers a fee till the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority passes an order. Spokesperson from the airport said the levy had been approved by the civil aviation ministry before the regulator was set up.Operators however are concerned about the cash flows while air travellers can fly cheaper with this latest move.

Pilots' strike cancels 80 Air India flights
 
About 650 Air India pilots out of the total 1500 are on strike since April 26 midnight. AI has banned the union and has dismissed six pilots. However AI has appointed an expert committee to look into the wage disparity and other issues raised post the merger of AI and Indian Airlines(IA). According to AI spokesperson 1600 pilots take away Rs 800 crore as salary out of AI's total wage bill of Rs 3000 crore. AI services were disrupted on several routes while a few private carriers have raised fare on the metro routes upto 60 per cent. Union leaders wanted to know why AI's 32 profitable routes were given to private carriers and keen on seeing AI's turn around plan.

India recorded 15% growth in international visitor arrivals in Feb: PATA
 
According to Pacific Asia Travel Association, international visitor arrivals into Asia and the Pacific for the month of February 2011 grew by 5 per cent year-on-year. South Asia recorded the strongest arrivals growth with a gain of 15 per cent. Two ICC World Cup Hosting destinations India and Sri Lanka, recorded the fastest arrivals growth of 15 per cent for the month.

Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister promises to support conservation initiatives in the state
 
At the recent workshop, the sixth in the series for Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI), Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister, Jammu & Kashmir vouched to support all conservation initiatives in the state. Jammu and Kashmir holds a rich repository of pristine freshwater systems, and unique flora and fauna. He said that the State government is fully supportive of conservation initiatives like the workshop arranged by Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI) in partnership with WWF-India and the support of Jammu and Kashmir Tourism and the PATA India Chapter, which will eventually benefit the state in the long run.
