Scheduled domestic airlines carry 95 lakh passengers during Jan-Feb 2011
 
According to data released by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, domestic passenger traffic recorded a 19.6 per cent growth during the first two months of this year. During January-February 2011, the scheduled domestic airlines in India carried 95.11 lakh passengers, as against 79.51 lakh during the corresponding period last year. Jet Airways retained its position as the market leader with 26.1% share.

Air India introduces mobile check-in at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bengaluru
 
Air India has introduced mobile check-in facility for its domestic passengers from the six major metro cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bengaluru with effect from April 7, 2011. It will be extended to other stations and international flights in a phased manner. Mobile check-in will enable travellers to check-in for their flights from their web enabled mobile hand sets by accessing the website http://flyai.mobi.

IATO to conduct one day interactive workshop in Assam on April 29
 
The core team of Indian Association of Tour Operators will conduct a one day interactive workshop in Assam, which will deliberate on the various opportunities and challenges in promoting Assam. IATO’s core team will be on a fam trip to Assam from 23-29 April. The workshop will be attended by the Assam tourism officials and private stakeholders to network and collectively carve out a strategic roadmap to promote tourism in the state.

Marriott to open 6 hotels this year in Chandigarh, Jaipur, Pune, Bengaluru, Bhopal and Chennai
 
Hospitality major Marriott International will open six hotels in 2011. Marriot will have a total of about 5000 rooms by end of this year with hotels coming up in Chandigarh, Jaipur, Pune, Bangalore, Bhopal and Chennai. It will have 18 operational hotels in the country. Marriott is planning to introduce its Fairfield Inn & Suites brand of hotels in mid market hotel segment. The group is also looking at franchise route to expand its presence in India.

Wyndham Hotel Group to add seven hotels for its Ramada® and Days Inn® brands
 
Wyndham Hotel Group announced the signing of seven properties in India for its Ramada® and Days Inn® brands on April 4. Six of the new hotels will be branded under the Ramada brand. Aerens Goldsouk International and/or its affiliates, headquartered in Gurgaon, has signed agreements for four of the properties in Chennai, Kochi, Hisar and Ludhiana, while the Madhuban Group in Dehradun and Mussoorie signed agreements for the other two properties.

The Days Inn® brand, which was introduced into the market just last month with the announcements of three new construction, full service Days Hotels, just signed an agreement with Mosaic Infraventures Private Ltd. for a fourth Days Hotel in Raipur.

Korea opens first visa application centre in India at New Delhi on April 1
 
In a move which will facilitate easy issuance of visas to Indian travellers bound for the Republic of Korea, the country has tied up with VFS Global to open its first visa application centre in India. Inaugurated in New Delhi, the visa application centre will offer an enhanced level of service with features including extended reach, extended submission duration, convenient modes of payments, faster turnaround time and passport delivery etc.

Bhutan aims to double High Net worth Individual (HNI) visitors from India in 2011 from 12,000 to 24,000
 
In line with the Royal Government, who has prioritised tourism as one of the lead sectors in view of its tremendous potential to generate employment and promote socio-economic development. The tourism council of Bhutan has doubled the target of High Networth Individuals HNI arrivals from India in the year 2011. Lately, in an exclusive tie-up in March, the Tourism Council of Bhutan, Drukair, and makemytrip.com (MMT) had launched charter flight inclusive holiday packages for Indian travellers to Bhutan.
