"Srinagar-Dubai flights not viable," says Vayalar Ravi, Minister for Civil Aviation

In a written answer to a question raised in the Rajya Sabha on the possibility of resuming flights from Srinagar to Dubai, Vayalar Ravi, Minister for Civil Aviation responded that the Srinagar-Dubai sector was economically not viable. The question was raised by Saifuddin Soz, Jammu & Kashmir State Congress Chief and Member of Parliament. The Srinagar-Dubai flight from Srinagar international Airport was started with a fanfare in February 14, 2009 but was grounded a year later. J&K Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah last month had blamed Pakistan for stopping the Srinagar-Dubai International flight saying that Islamabad had refused overflight permission. Further, Soz suggested that the flight can be a lucrative proposition for Air India if Srinagar-Dubai flight is extended to Jeddah as a sizable number of people from Kashmir will take the route for Umrah.

Prominent SkyTeam members include Dutch carrier, KLM, AeroFlot, Delta, Alitalia, Air Europa and Vietnam Airlines. "Indians among top business travellers in Asia-Pacific," says Accor Asia Pacific Business Travel Research 2011

Accor presented the key findings of the first Accor Asia Pacific Business Travel Research 2011. The survey divulges that Indians have taken some of the highest number of trips on an average in the first half of 2011 vis-à-vis their Asian counterparts and plan to hit the road almost as frequently in the remaining year. Male Indian business travellers were more price conscious than the females and ranked price competitiveness as the second more important factor in the selection of a hotel. Another observation is that the majority of Indian business travellers in the sample prefer to book their business travel accommodation directly online with the hotel brand, while usage of online travel agents is in the minority. This result is substantiated by the finding that 62 per cent of Indian business travellers believe that hotel branded websites provide the most competitive rates, whereas only 33 per cent of them think independent websites offer the cheapest prices.
