Jet Airways to start second daily
Mumbai-Bangkok flight from August 16
Jet Airways has announced the launch of
its second daily Mumbai-Bangkok flight with special offers from Mumbai. The
9W 68 Mumbai-Bangkok services will begin operations to the Thai capital from
August 16. The airline is offering a special economy class return fare of Rs
4,388 to mark the launch of its Mumbai-Bangkok second service. The fare is
valid until August 5 while outbound travel must commence on or before
October 15. Jet Airways has also re-introduced a special premiere one way
fare of Rs 25,000 valid for sale and travel with immediate effect until
September 30 on this second frequency.

Uniglobe Travel (South Asia) launches 'carbon
offset programme' in India
Uniglobe Travel (South
Asia) recently announced the launch of ‘carbon offset programme’ along with
the Carbon Neutral Company in New Delhi. The Uniglobe carbon offset
programme electronically calculates carbon emissions of each trip by an
aircraft. The programme is a counter balancing activity to reduce carbon
emissions produced by the travel industry. The offset programme will include
projects related to solar, wind, hydro and biomass energy and re-use of
waste products.

FHRAI in talks with international security
agencies to offer member hotels terror shield
FHRAI is in active consultation with a
couple of specialised international security agencies from Israel and
Philippines to provide its member hotels with enhanced security expertise.
As soon as the association finalises the security blueprint and the agency
it plans to approach, the ministry of tourism would further take up the
matter with the ministry of external affairs. The tie-up, once final
alongwith requisite official approval, will provide FHRAI member hotels
latest international security practices through workshops, seminars and
training programmes.

DGCA to form committee to look into fare transparency
The director general of civil aviation (DGCA)
convened a two-day meeting on July 29 and July 30 with all airlines
operating to/from/within India to discuss some issues raised by the airlines
pertaining to operational charges at the airports in India and hassles
related to ground handling. At the meeting, the DGCA also discussed the fare
structure and its transparency with the airlines. Earlier, the DGCA had
given a deadline of July 30 to the airlines to implement the amended
Aircraft Rule135 asking them to show full break ups of the fare on their
websites and distribution channels. However, airlines conveyed their
inability to follow the guidelines. The DGCA agreed to form a committee to
look into the matter. The committee will also be represented by airlines.

Great India Travel Bazzar mulling to introduce 'theme state' for
2010 show
The third edition of Great India Travel
Bazaar (GITB) to be held in Jaipur from April 11-13, 2010 is thinking to
introduce the concept of a theme state – a state which will have enhanced
prominence at GITB 2010. Amit Mitra, secretary general, Federation of Indian
Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) said that the number of foreign
buyers is expected to show an increase of 15 to 20 per cent and the country
spread is aimed at 52 to 55 in GITB 2010 from 42 in GITB 2009.

Four 'Courtyard by Marriott' to open in India at Ahmedabad,
Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Mumbai by year end
The remaining five months of the year
will see Marriott International opening four more hotels, all ‘Courtyard by
Marriott’ in Ahmedabad, Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The 164-room
Courtyard by Marriott Ahmedabad and 199-room Courtyard by Marriott Gurgaon
are slated to open in October. Likewise, 193-room Courtyard by Marriott
Hyderabad will open in November while 299-room Courtyard by Marriott Mumbai
International Airport is slated to open in December.

MOT release regional tourism maps of India
The ministry of tourism (MOT) had recently
released five regional maps of north, south, west, east and north-east
regions of the country for the stakeholders in the tourism industry as well
as for the end users. The maps show the geographical location of important
tourist places including rivers, hill stations, places of worship, caves,
forts, monasteries, state capitals and transportation facilities. In
addition, the maps contain information on tourist locations, specialty of
the states, places to stay, languages spoken, important fairs, shopping
guides, festivals, cuisines and important contact numbers.

MOT to sensitise tourism stakeholders on
emerging trends in infrastructure through workshop
As a capacity building initiative, the
ministry of tourism (MOT) will organise a workshop on August 19 to sensitise
various stakeholders in the industry towards the emerging trends in
state-of-art tourism infrastructure. The workshop will lay emphasis on
development of world class tourism infrastructure in consultation with
travel managers, tour consultants, engineers, architects and other
stakeholders in the industry.

MOT introduces new software to facilitate
Central Financial Assistance to states
The ministry of
tourism introduced a new project monitoring information system (PMIS), as
part of a new e-governance initiative on July 28 after assessing the
progress on various schemes that had been granted Central Financial
Assistance (CFA). The PMIS software is part of MOT’s e-governance
initiatives, which is likely to be functional by November. The new PMIS
software will provide online access to state governments to enter the
physical and financial progress of the CFA projects. The states will have
the option to submit new projects online while the centre will have the
online lever to monitor performance of various projects.

First inter-state regional conference to
address various tourism bottlenecks on August 17
The ministry of
tourism will conduct the first inter-state regional conference in New Delhi
on August 17, a source close to the development said. While unveiling the
first 100 days agenda on July 1, Kumari Selja, union minister of tourism had
proposed to hold four inter-state regional conferences. The objective of the
conference is to remove inter-state bottlenecks and ensure that development
of tourism takes place in a holistic and integrated manner. The first
conference will try to facilitate cooperation between the north and central
regions.

Selja to lead business delegation to overseas PATA roadshows
Kumari Selja, union
minister of tourism, will lead the business delegation to the overseas PATA
roadshows to be held from August 25-28. PATA will conduct the first roadshow
in Finland on August 25, the second roadshow in Sweden on August 27 and the
final roadshow in Norway on August 28. The ministry of tourism (MOT) had
been very proactive in promoting destination India in the overseas markets
and its efforts seem to have borne fruits with the marginal rise in foreign
tourist arrivals in June.

MOT to allocate upto Rs 5 crore for
convention centre and Rs 75 lakh for heliports to boost MICE and heli-tourism
To tap the potential
of tourism sector through new and innovative measures, the ministry of
tourism has announced that it would promote MICE and heli-tourism. Kumari
Selja, union minister for tourism has announced that MOT would grant Central
Financial Assistance (CFA) for the construction of one convention centre in
each state/union territory under the scheme of Product/Infrastructure
Development of Destinations and Circuits for promotion of MICE. The
assistance will be provided for upto Rs 5 crore for each project of the
state/union territories. The ministry is also focussing on creating
infrastructure related to adventure and heli-tourism. The ministry has
decided to grant CFA of up to Rs 75 lakh to states and union territories for
construction of heliports.

Minar Travels has been appointed general
sales agent (GSA) for the Golden Chariot for Russia and CIS countries.
