SpiceJet to operate more flights on
Goa-Mumbai and Goa-Bengaluru sectors
SpiceJet introduces more flights to Goa
from Mumbai and Bengaluru before the start of the festival season. Flights
connecting Goa and Mumbai will commence from September 11. This is the
second connection between the two cities. The new connection from Bengaluru
to Goa starts operating from October 25. With these new flights, SpiceJet’s
daily departures will increase from 125 to 129 by the end of October.

Leisure Tours opens resort at Jim Corbett
National Park
Leisure Tours, a leading travel company
known for its services in MICE, inbound, outbound and domestic tourism has
launched a luxury resort hotel in Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand.
The new resort called Corbett Leisure has 35 rooms. Centrally air
conditioned, the resort also has a conference hall for 120 people and a
special gym area. The company has also decided to launch two more hotels by
2011, one each in Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. According to Naveen Kundu,
managing director, Leisure Tours, the company is focussing on luxury resorts
and B2B travel business in India.

India (ADTOI), in its effort to enrol more members and increase the
membership base of the association, has introduced special incentives
programme for its members to enlist new members in the association. The

Taj Lands End, Mumbai
has added 125 new rooms comprising 107 Taj Club rooms and 18 suites,
increasing its inventory to 493 rooms. Situated on 22nd to 25th floors, the
new Taj Club rooms have been designed by David Winter. Taj Lands End also
offers suites including executive, luxury and grand luxury suites, each
spread over 680 sq ft, 962 sq ft and 1,188 sq ft respectively.

ITDC forays into hotel franchising under
Ashok brand
India Tourism
Development Corporation (ITDC) recently announced diversification of its
hotel operations. A government of India undertaking, ITDC, under the Ashok
Alliance Hotels scheme has forayed into hotel franchising business under
Ashok brand for private as well as government hotels. As part of this
initiative, ITDC has signed two privately-owned properties Hotel Welcome
City Beautiful in Chandigarh and Riverfront Hotel in Surat.

Hans Hotels to open its first 5-star property
in Gurgaon by March 2010
Hans Hotels is all set to open its first
5-star property in Gurgaon (Haryana) by March 2010, according to Rita Shah,
COO, Hans Hotels. Since Gurgaon is a corporate hub in the NCR region, the
company will target this segment with all luxurious facilities. The
facilities include 120 deluxe rooms, conference rooms, spa, gym, Indian
restaurant, 24-hour coffee shop and an exclusive lounge. In addition,
facilities like mini bar, 24-hour money exchange service, safe deposit
lockers, etc. will also be available. It is estimated that Hans Hotels is
making an investment of approximately Rs 100 crore for the Gurgaon property,
which is being built on 1.1 acre land.

Karnataka declares tourism an industry; to
set up 3-tier investment clearance mechanism
Karnataka tourism has decided to extend all
the benefits that are given for setting up and running an industry in the
state to the travel trade. It has declared tourism as an industry in the new
tourism policy 2009-2014 with an aim to develop Karnataka as the most
preferred tourism destination in India. Karnataka will now evolve a
three-tier mechanism to clear investment in tourism projects below Rs 3
crore, between Rs 3 crore-Rs 50 crore and beyond Rs 50 crore.
