Nepal Airlines to start Mumbai-Kathmandu
operations from October with two weekly flights
In order to cater to India's
growing tourism potential, Nepal Airlines
will launch its operations from another key city of India namely Mumbai. The
airline plans to start operations between Mumbai and Kathmandu with two
weekly flights. Nepal Airlines already operates daily flights from Delhi.

Etihad Airways to fly to Hyderabad in
November
Etihad Airways will boost its Indian
flying programme with the addition of Hyderabad to its global network. The
Abu Dhabi-based airline will become the first airline to operate flights
between its home base and the state capital of Andhra Pradesh when it
launches its non-stop, four times a week service from November. The service
will become daily from the beginning of 2010. Etihad currently operates 38
weekly flights from the UAE to India.

B2B 'Adventure Travel Mart' in India
Adventure Tour
Operators Association of India (ATOAI) is working on the proposal to
organise the first B2B ‘Adventure Travel Mart/ Expo’ in India. The
association plans to invite/host overseas operators in India as buyers
strictly by invitation on the basis of pure merit. Currently, the
association is analysing various aspects of organising the mart that will
involve active support of verticals like hotels and airlines. The
association is also expecting an active support from the government.

in Mussoorie
Fortune Park Hotels, ITC’s wholly-owned
subsidiary, recently opened its 30th property, Fortune Resort Grace -
an upscale resort in Mussoorie. Spread over 32 acres on hill slope, Fortune
Resort Grace offers 74 well appointed rooms, including 25 standard rooms, 45
valley view rooms and four suites. The hotel has launched an inaugural offer of
Rs 5,299 per person per night for a minimum of two nights. The offer is
valid till September 30 and includes breakfast & all taxes.

Clarks Inn Hotels introduces new hotel brand, signs first all
suites hotel
Clarks Inn Group of Hotels has joined
with PAV Realty, a joint venture company of Paramount and Ajnara Group of
Companies, to manage its upcoming five-star property in Orbit Plaza at
Crossing Republic in the National Capital Region. Orbit Plaza, a mix use
development, will boast of a five-star hotel, a shopping mall and office
space. The hotel, slated to open in 2011, will have around 100 suites and
space for large banquets amongst other amenities.

India's foreign tourist arrivals up by 0.6 per cent
The monthly estimates of the ministry of
tourism reveal further signs of revival in the number of foreign tourist
arrivals (FTAs), which grew by 0.6 per cent at 4.33 lakh as compared to 4.29
lakh during July 2008. The June and July figures hint that the worst of
global slowdown has passed and the industry will gradually chart a healthy
recovery curve. For the first time in the last nine months, the downward
trend in foreign tourist arrivals to the country had shown improvement in
June, when FTAs registered a growth of 0.2 per cent.

India-Singapore to promote reciprocal visits of travel agents
and tour operators under joint action plan
India and Singapore signed a joint action
plan on tourism cooperation on August 4 in New Delhi, which reiterates the
provisions of cooperation enshrined in the bilateral agreement on tourism
signed between India and Singapore on January 24, 1994. Under the joint
action plan, India and Singapore will promote reciprocal visits of travel
agents, tour operators and media representatives with the aim to create
awareness about tourist attractions in each other’s countries. The joint
action plan will also encourage measures for skill development in the
tourism industry and strengthen joint marketing collaboration in third
countries such as China and ASEAN member countries.

Canada returns to India, appoints
Buzz Marketing as its representative
The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) is back
in India after a brief hiatus. The tourism board has appointed Buzz
Marketing as its representative in India for all its marketing and
promotional activities. To facilitate and educate travel agents, the CTC has
also launched an online training programme for Canada specialist agents. The
programme, which is still on level 1, provides an introduction to Canada.
Level 2 of the programme, to be launched by the year end, will provide an
extensive and comprehensive training platform for all agents with a serious
interest in selling Canada.

Amadeus unveils new software products and
automated solutions
In view of the increasing pressure on
travel agency business and with an objective to ease out the same, Amadeus
India on August 1, introduced a number of software products and automated
solutions. The new range of travel solutions will be delivered through the
Amadeus GDS platform and will provide an access to products from over 790
airlines, 262 hotel chains, accounting for over 82,000 properties and over
30 international car rental companies. The new solutions will also offer
booking of Indian rail tickets, a comprehensive self-booking tool for
corporates and travel management companies and a state-of-the-art automated
back office system.
