SpiceJet to commence flights from Madurai from September 27, 2010
Domestic low-cost carrier,
SpiceJet, has announced the addition of Madurai as its 20th destination,
thereby increasing its presence in the southern region. The first flight
between Madurai and Chennai will commence on September 27, 2010, connecting
onwards to Delhi and Mumbai. Bookings from Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai to/from
Madurai are now open.

Marketing Indian cuisine can lead to an increase in tourism by 9%, says

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal
stressed on the need to promote the diversity of cuisines of Incredible
India. “We have failed to market the enormous versatility of Indian
cuisines. Quite frankly, we could increase tourism by 9 per cent in India
if we market the cuisine well,” the minister said during the recently
concluded HAI conclave.

TAAI develops 'System One' platform for accessing airline tickets and
inventory on a single screen
The Travel Agents
Association of India (TAAI) has developed a new technology platform, called
System One, to enable travel agents access any airline and its inventory on
a single screen. The new platform will provide the flight schedule, cost and
choice of airline in a single window. System One also allows the agents to
use their own BSP stock mapping, while issuing full service carrier tickets.

tour operators and individuals with an intention to misrepresent, misguide
and cheat the tourists, are using the logo of Incredible India in an
unauthorised way without taking any prior permission from the Ministry of
Tourism. Incredible India is a copyright and registered trademark of
the Ministry of Tourism and any display of this logo without due permission
of the Ministry of Tourism can invite suitable legal & penal action.

Abacus Travel Systems & ITE, Singapore, sign
MoU to set up an Abacus software laboratory for tourism courses by 2010-end
The Institute
of Technical Education, Singapore, and Abacus Travel Systems have signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly set up a dedicated Abacus
software laboratory – the only one of its kind – at ITE College West to
support the Tourism courses in ITE. More than 15 lecturers and 200 students
are expected to be trained in Abacus award-winning travel reservation
solutions by the end of the year.
