CIVIL AVIATION FAA to meet DGCA on March 2, 2009 to scrutinise civil aviation safety in India A high level delegation of The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will visit India from March 2 to 9, 2009, to meet the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) officials, airports and airlines to examine the present status of the safety measures taken by them. Sources said that FAA has its set parameter as regard to safety aspect to maintain its aviation bi-lateral relationship with other countries. Accordingly, it categorises the countries, on which basis the US civil aviation authority poses some restrictions. Currently, India is enjoying ‘A’ category status. Close to the developments, sources also said that owing to some recent happenings and ICAO evaluation, FAA has decided to re-look at the present state-of-affairs regarding aviation safety regulations being followed in India. For more details click here Top Slight improvement in domestic traffic witnessed in January 2009, says DGCA According to the DGCA sources, total passengers carried by scheduled domestic airlines in January, 2009 were 33.26 lakhs. While in December 2008, total domestic passengers carried by the scheduled airlines were 33.23 lakhs. The break-up of passengers carried by the airlines in January, 2009 is as follows: Air India (domestic) – 5.55 lakhs, Jet Airways –5.96 lakhs, Jet Lite – 2.41 lakhs, Kingfisher – 9.19 lakhs, Spice Jet – 3.93 lakhs, Paramount – 0.71 lakhs, Go Air – 0.81 lakhs, IndiGo – 4.57 lakhs, MDLR, 0.13 lakhs. The percentage share of the carriers in the month of January, 2009 was Air India (domestic) – 16.7, Jet Airways – 17.9, Jet Lite – 7.2, Kingfisher – 27.6, Spice Jet – 11.8, Paramount – 2.1, Go Air – 2.4, IndiGo – 13.7 and MDLR – 0.04. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has announced its second project in India,
Fairmont Jaipur. Scheduled to open in 2010, the hotel, located in
Rajasthan in the northwest of India, joins Fairmont Hyderabad as the
luxury hotel brand’s first forays into the Indian market. The property is
being developed by Capricorn Hospitality Investments India and its local
partner.

Finland – Finpro India announced a whopping increase of 28.9 per cent in
overnight stays in the year 2008 as compared to 2007. The 2008 figure
(Jan- Dec) stood at 63,912 against 49,598 in 2007. She also announced that
the India Workshop – Fascinating Finland as a result of this encouraging
trend, will see over 15 suppliers and regional tourist boards joining
together for this promotion. The three city workshop (Delhi /Mumbai
/Bengaluru) will begin from March first week 2009 and will be led by Arto
Asikainen, head – Asia, Visit Finland.

announced a joint promotion to boost Indian tourist arrivals to Malaysia
and specifically promote the Malaysian F1. This promotion targetted for
