India wins 10 awards at the PATA Gold Awards 2011
Pacific Asia Travel
Association (PATA), announced the winners of the 2011 PATA Gold Awards.
Multiple awards were given in different categories with many going to Kerala
Tourism and Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and Tourism Australia.
The awards are presented to outstanding entries in the four principal
categories: Marketing, Education and Training, Environment, and Heritage.
This year, the Grand Awards go to Accor Asia Pacific, Singapore, for
Education and Training; Kerala Tourism, India, for Environment; Galle Face
Hotel, Sri Lanka, for Heritage, and Tourism Australia in the Marketing
category. ‘Kumarakom’, Kerala Tourism, India won the PATA Grand Award 2011
in the Environment category. The awards ceremony will take place on April
11, 2011 at China World Hotel during the PATA 60th Anniversary and
Conference, Beijing, China.

Deccan Charters, Taj Air and Business Jets India to launch new charter
alliance ‘POWERFLY’ from February 14
Deccan Charters and Taj Air,
the executive charter service of IHCL, and Business Jets India, BJETS have
collaborated to launch a new alliance in the air charter industry - called ‘POWERFLY’.
The alliance combines aviation and hospitality leadership to deliver one
stop access to business aircraft from Jets to turboprops and helicopters.
The collaboration includes a marketing, maintenance and operational support
agreement between Deccan Charters and BJETS. ‘POWERFLY’ will commence
operations from February 14, 2011, and will accept bookings with immediate
effect.

Industry could see new aircraft sales of up to US$ 12 billion over the next
decade: CAPA
In a revealing new report
released on February 3, 2011 by CAPA India, the country’s General Aviation
(GA) sector is highlighted as a major growth opportunity. CAPA projects that
the industry could see new aircraft sales – business jets, helicopters,
turboprops and piston engines – of up to US$ 12 billion over the next
decade, by which time the GA fleet is expected to reach 2,000 aircraft, up
from 680 today. The report estimates that the direct and indirect economic
contribution of GA could be close to US$ 4 billion per annum by 2020.

MGM Hospitality announces first hotel project in New Delhi, India
MGM Hospitality has
announced the signing of an agreement to operate the company’s first
destination hotel in India. The MGM Grand and Skylofts New Delhi will be
part of a dynamic multiple-hotel development in Delhi. The new hotel will
feature approximately 480 MGM Grand guest rooms, along with a number of
exclusive Skylofts brand suites and serviced apartments. Groundbreaking on
the project is scheduled for March 2011. MGM Grand New Delhi is anticipated
to welcome its first guests in early 2014.

Sarovar Hotels announced
the opening of Sarovar Portico, Jaipur on January 28. Located in Vaishali

Hilton opens 171-room property in Mumbai
Hilton Hotels &
Resorts announced the opening of its second hotel in Mumbai, recently. The
171-room Hilton Mumbai, International Airport was opened last month and this
is Hilton Worldwide’s third in India. Hilton Mumbai, International Airport
is owned by DB Hospitality, the hospitality vertical of DB Group. The
property is equipped with a 7,696 square feet function space; a
2,420-square-foot ballroom and five stately halls exuding a charming
European ambience.

South Africa records 20%+ increase in Indian arrivals in the first 10 months
last year
South Africa has
registered significant growth from the Indian market. The destination
received 57908 Indian visitors from January till October last year as
against 47680 visitors over the same period the previous year, recording a
growth of more than 20 per cent. In October 2010 alone, the destination
received 6291 Indian visitors against 5047 received in October 2009.

TRAVEL CARD
Axis bank launches the first and only Indian currency prepaid Travel Card
Axis Bank, India’s third
largest private bank recently announced the launch of INDIA TRAVEL CARD,
India’s first and only Indian Currency prepaid travel card for foreign
nationals and non-resident Indians travelling to India. The India Travel
Card will initially be available at select Axis Bank branches in Mumbai,
Delhi and Chennai as well as a large network of money changers. The card
will be made available at over 190 well-located Axis Bank branches in the
next few months. A customer can exchange foreign currency with the
Branch/Money changer and receive a Rupee-denominated prepaid card with the
same amount as converted in Indian rupees at the prevailing exchange rate.
The card can be used at more than 4.7 lakh Merchant outlets and over 44,000
ATMs.
