AirAsia plans to launch six new routes in India
 
AirAsia is all set to extend its footprint with the launch of direct flights to six new routes in the first quarter of 2010. Conquering India skies, the new services to key metro cities include Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi from Kuala Lumpur and from Penang to Chennai. The Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad sectors will be serviced by AirAsia’s A320 aircraft, Mumbai and Delhi will be served by its long-haul affiliate, AirAsia X via its new Airbus A330 fleet. With a total of 148 flights weekly from India, this new development is subsequent to AirAsia’s huge success of Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) followed by Kolkata, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) recording an average of 80 per cent load factor on all our four existing routes.

Air India clears IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit)
 
Air India has cleared the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) audits for 2009. The combined NACIL has successfully completed the auditing and received confirmation of audit closure from AQS, the auditing company based in Germany. NACIL-A cleared its fourth IOSA audit showing its compliance with the IATA operational safety and quality standards. IOSA had set new standards in place, with various additional requirements to be met, effective July 2009. Air India was the first airline in India to obtain IOSA registry and one of the first in the world, in the year 2003. Subsequently, Air India has undergone renewal audits successfully.

IndiGo introduces six new flights between Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Lucknow and Patna
 
IndiGo recently announced the expansion of its route network with the introduction of six new flights with effect from January 20, 2010. The new flights operate on Delhi – Mumbai – Delhi; Delhi – Lucknow – Delhi; Delhi –Patna– Delhi; Mumbai – Patna – Mumbai; Chennai- Delhi – Chennai and Chennai- Mumbai – Chennai routes. With the launch of these new services, IndiGo is now operating 161 daily flights currently connecting 20 destinations.

Qatar Airways to start Doha-Bengaluru services from February 22
 
Qatar Airways will be soon commencing services between Doha and Bengaluru from February 22, 2010 with daily non-stop scheduled services between the two sectors. The southern Indian city, being home to the largest IT software industry, will soon become the airline’s 11th destination in India.

New board of BIAL decides to construct Terminal 2 at Bengaluru airport
 
The Board of Directors of the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has been reconstituted with the induction of three new members. At a recently held board meeting, GV Krishna Reddy, Indira K Reddy and GV Sanjay Reddy were appointed as new directors on the board. Reconstitution of the BIAL board of directors followed the acquisition of 29 per cent stake in the company by GVK Power and Infrastructure. The new board has decided to construct a brand new terminal building T2 at the airport. The first phase of terminal T2 will cater to passenger traffic of 15 million per annum.

Haryana to open Aerosports centre at Mohindergarh district in Haryana
 
The Aero Club of India, in a joint venture with Haryana state government, is establishing the Rajiv Gandhi National Centre for Aerosports at Bacchod Airstrip, in Narnaul, which is in Mohindergarh district in Haryana. The announcement for the opening will be made by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, chief minister, Haryana and Satish K Sharma, M.Pand, president, Aero Club of India in an Airshow and Aerosports display at Bacchod Airstrip on January 31, 2010. Bacchod airstrip, Narnaul is approximately 56-km from Rewari.
