Jet starts Mumbai-Jeddah service; to fly Hyderabad-Dubai route from August 16
 
Jet Airways launched its services to Saudi Arabia with the introduction of daily service from Mumbai to Jeddah on July 14. Jet Airways operated its maiden flight on the sector aboard a state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The airline is all set to launch services to Dubai from Hyderabad with effect from August 16. It will commence services on this route aboard a state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Currently, Jet Airways operates twice daily services to Dubai from Mumbai and daily services from Delhi and Chennai.

ATOAI's roadshows to be organised in Australia & New Zealand in September
 
Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI), in association with the ministry of tourism, government of India, has planned a series of roadshows in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. ATOAI’s Australia and New Zealand roadshows earlier scheduled for July have now been rescheduled for September. The roadshows will first travel to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in Australia, followed by Auckland and Wellington in New Zealand. Likewise, roadshows in Canada will travel to Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa and Edmonton in the first quarter of next year.

DGCA office likely to call airlines to settle agents' commission issue
 
As a result of recent judgment given by Kerala High Court on travel agents’ commission, the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) office is now planning to call a meeting of all airlines which are practising zero commission model in India. After studying the judgment, the DGCA office would find an amicable solution pertaining to agents’ commission, which is a part of airlines’ ticket fare. On hearing of an IAAI (IATA Agents Association of India) writ petition, the Kerala High Court had advised the ministry of civil aviation and DGCA to ensure that Rule 135 (Tariff) of Aircraft Rules, 1937 be implemented both in letter and spirit.

Third GITB, India's international tourism mart, scheduled from April 11-13 at Jaipur
 
The department of tourism, government of Rajasthan, the ministry of tourism, government of India and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), are co-organising the third Great India Travel Bazaar (GITB) 2010, an international tourism mart from April 11-13 at B M Birla Convention Centre at Jaipur in Rajasthan. The second edition of GITB was attended by some 178 foreign buyers representing 159 companies from over 45 countries who interacted with 168 registered Indian enterprises in tourism sector from across the country. The GITB 2009 witnessed around 5,000 structured, prefixed, formal and informal meetings.

GATEWAY signs five more hotels

 
The GATEWAY Hotels, a hotel brand launched by Taj Hotels & Resorts in September last year, is gradually expanding its pan-India footprints. GATEWAY has increased the number of properties under its portfolio from 26 to 31 within a span of nine months. Currently, it has 19 operating hotels, 12 projects are in the pipeline while active negotiations are on for another 15 hotels. Last year, 16 hotels migrated from Taj’s portfolio when GATEWAY brand was launched. In addition, 10 more properties had been signed and the management was in active negotiations for 10 more.

Leela’s first managed hotel, The Leela Kempinski Gurgaon was officially launched last weekend. Selja unveils fully furnished sample DDA flat for Commonwealth Games visitors
 
Kumari Selja, union minister of tourism, govt. of India, unveiled the first upgraded and fully furnished sample DDA flat at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi on July 16. The flat is part of the alternative accommodation scheme for Commonwealth Games 2010 to bridge the shortage of rooms after suitably furnishing them. The government of Delhi is in the process of expediting all pending applications for approval of new Bed & Breakfast (B&B) units in Delhi and would shortly launch an advertising and publicity campaign to attract more homeowners to join the scheme.

Camper-Van policy on anvil, ATOAI urged to formulate guidelines
 
As part of ministry of tourism, government of India’s initiatives to foster public private partnership (PPP) in the development of niche tourism products, Sujit Banerjee, secretary tourism, government of India has asked Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) to come up with a detailed policy report and guidelines on Camper-Van tourism. Camper-Vans are vehicles that are meant for transportation as well as accommodation and are equipped with a kitchenette, a refrigerator, sleeping beds, etc.

Overseas Marketing Meet to be held in New Delhi from August 3-4
 
The ministry of tourism (MOT) has released official dates for Oversees Marketing Meet to be organised in New Delhi. It will be organised from August 3-4. All overseas offices will attend the meet in New Delhi and make presentations on various marketing initiatives introduced in 2008-09. The numerous marketing initiatives launched by overseas offices of the department of tourism have led to a marginal rise in the number of foreign tourist arrivals.

Rajasthan to utilise Rs 40 crore allocation to attract more tourists
 
The state-owned Rajasthan Tourist Development Corporation (RTDC) is determined to make optimum use of Rs 40 crore allocation to attract more tourists. The state government has allocated a budget of Rs 25 crore this year and a further Rs 15 crore will be accrued through centre sponsored schemes for tourism and allied activities. The recent launch of Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, upgradation of hotels, motels and resorts, attractive tourist packages and a new village in Pushkar are part of RTDC’s strategy to make optimum use of allocated funds.
