Jet Airways to launch Kochi-Sharjah daily service from September 1
 
Jet Airways will launch the Kochi-Sharjah daily service from September 1. The airline will launch its new services aboard state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 aircraft. This will be Jet Airways’ fourth daily service to the Gulf from Kochi, complementing the airline’s existing daily services on the Kochi-Doha, Kuwait and Muscat sectors. Following the launch of Jet Airways’ services on the Hyderabad-Dubai sector on August 16, the airline’s Kochi-Sharjah flight will be Jet Airways’ eighth daily service to the UAE from India.

Expedia Affiliate Network (EAN) has recently formed a partnership with Travel Boutique Online (TBO), which is India’s leading airline consolidator, to offer its customers access to Expedia’s hotel products. The partnership enables TBO’s over 4,000 agents, majorly into ticketing across 130 cities in India access to EAN’s extensive hotel offerings. Agents can make real time bookings for their customers. Expedia offers more than 100,000 hotels, including one to five star hotels, individual guest houses and bed and breakfasts.

ATOAI announces its convention dates, venue yet to be finalised
 
Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) has finalised its convention dates as January 15, 16 and 17. However, the venue for the eighth annual convention is yet to be decided. According to Tejbir Singh Anand, president, ATOAI, the association is currently toying with the idea of taking the convention to either Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir or some other place in Madhya Pradesh.

France to be partner country for 'Aviation 2010' in Hyderabad from March 3-7
 
France has confirmed that it would be the partner country for the 2nd international exhibition and conference on civil aviation called ‘India Aviation 2010’, which will be held in Hyderabad from March 3 to 7. Making the formal announcement on July 22 in New Delhi, Praful Patel, union civil aviation minister informed that USA will be the focus country and Farnborough International, UK will be the overseas associate for the event. The 5-day event will be jointly organised by the ministry of civil aviation and FICCI.

Concept Hospitality rebrands 'Grazia' to 'Fern'
 
Concept Hospitality, a hotel management company, has rebranded its recently launched premium hotel brand ‘Grazia’ to ‘Fern’. Confirming the same, Param Kannampilly, executive chairman, Concept Hospitality, said, “We obtained the approval for ‘Grazia’ branding from the government and later realised that there already exists a ‘Grazia Inn.’ Therefore, to avoid confusion we have rebranded it as ‘Fern’, named after the first plant on earth.” The first ‘Fern’ hotel is scheduled to open on August 15 in Jaipur.

'Common entry tickets for heritage sites to be launched shortly': V Narayanasamy, minister of state for planning and parliamentary affairs

 
V Narayanasamy, minister of state for planning and parliamentary affairs told the Lok Sabha in a written reply on July 22 that a common entry ticket for all World Heritage Sites except Taj Mahal will be launched shortly. The Taj Mahal will have an exclusive new entry ticket. Another common entry ticket for remaining monuments protected by Archaeological Survey of India will also be introduced. Travel agents and hotels would be at liberty to buy these tickets in bulk.

TAT to open Mumbai office by year end
 
By the end of this year, TAT will open its Mumbai office. Confirming the news, Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, director, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) informed that the Mumbai office will be responsible for tourism marketing PR activities in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sri Lanka and Maldives. TAT New Delhi will be responsible for the remaining Indian states and union territories and also Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan.

Abacus' improved 'PowerSuite' shield agents better from growing credit risk
 
Abacus International has enhanced its front, mid and back-office productivity tool, Abacus PowerSuite by introducing new functions to better shield travel agencies from the growing issue of credit risk exposure. The enhanced Abacus PowerSuite integrates with four major credit card companies such as VISA to bring faster revenue turnaround of up to 90 per cent for Abacus travel agencies. Brett Henry, vice president marketing, Abacus International said that the current volatile business environment can make the travel agency business more susceptible to credit risks unless the travel agency has the tools to identify these risks and make informed and timely decisions on credit terms for specific customers.
