Air India gets equity infusion of Rs 1200 crore in this fiscal year
Financially troubled Air India
recently got an in-principal approval from the GoM for equity infusion of Rs
1200 crore in this fiscal year. A group of ministers also cleared payment of
Rs 532 crore to operate flights to India from Egypt early this year. The
airline, whose combined debt, losses and dues are almost Rs 87,000 crore at
present needs Rs 6,000 crore immediately to survive.

opening its first serviced residence (96 units) in Bengaluru on August 1,

Supreme Court, on July 11, permits Hilton Worldwide to operate under
‘HILTON’ brand in India
Hilton Worldwide, on July 11, 2011,
has obtained a confirmation from the Indian appellate courts that it can
continue to conduct business in India under its HILTON trademarks. The order
passed by the Supreme Court vindicates Hilton Worldwide’s stand that the
District Court decision cannot be used to interfere with Hilton Worldwide’s
right to use its 90-year-old HILTON mark in India.

MOT releases figures for 2010: Foreign Tourist Visits grow by 24.2%
with 17.9 million travellers, Domestic Tourist Visits grow by 10.7% with
740 million travellers
As per the statistics released by
the Ministry of Tourism on tourist visits, the Foreign Tourist Visits to
India registered an impressive growth of 24.2 per cent in the year 2010. The
number of foreign tourist visits (FTVs) during the year 2010 was 17.9
million as compared to 14.4 million in 2009 and 2008.
The Domestic Tourist Visits
showed a growth of 10.7 per cent last year. The number of domestic tourist
visit to the States and UTs during the year 2010 was 740 million as compared
to 669 million in 2009 and 563 million in 2008.

Netherlands records 13% growth in Indian arrivals and 20% in overnight stays
Netherlands is witnessing
significant increase in visitor arrivals from India. The destination has
recorded a growth of 13 per cent in Indian arrivals for the first quarter of
2011 in comparison to the same period last year. Overnight stay by Indians
increased from 20,000 in 2010 to 24,000 in 2011, an increase of 20 per cent
through the months from January to March.

Desiya and TravelGuru, the online travel agencies owned by Travelocity,
filed a civil suit against Cleartrip for data theft on July 19, 2011
Online travel agencies Desiya and
Travelguru, owned by Travelocity, one of the leading global OTAs, have filed
a civil suit against Cleartrip, its senior Executives and Directors,
including their CEO, in a Mumbai court for data theft following the filing
of criminal charge sheet by the Gurgaon police relating to the same case.
Travelocity India has claimed damages of US$37.5 million for the business
losses suffered by it as a result of the theft.

IRCTC stops new registrations for travel agents from this week
According to the new norms set by
IRCTC in response to an illegal network of railway agents, only a single
user can register on one email ID, travel agents will not be permitted to
book tickets between 8am-9am and new registrations for travel agents have
been stopped.

Himachal Pradesh signs a US$ 95.16m loan agreement with Asian Development
Bank to develop tourism projects
Himachal Pradesh government recently
signed a USD 95.16 million loan agreement with Asian Development Bank to
improve urban infrastructure, connectivity, quality enhancement of natural
and cultural attractions, community-based activities, capacity development,
community participation and project management in the state. The total
amount will be used till June 2020 while this year, the government has
already allocated Rs 10 crore.

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation gets Rs 50 crore for tourism
development with special focus on security
Maharashtra tourism ministry has
approved Rs 50 crore plan for comprehensive tourism development in the state
with special focus on security. The package includes features such as a
floating jetty at Elephanta, a fort circuit plan linking all the forts for
tourism, public amenities at major tourist spots — Raigad Fort, Buddhist
caves and the Ashtavinayak temples.
