Jet Airways to fly on Thiruvananthapuram-Sharjah route from Oct 30 with
Boeing 737-800, offering 16 Premiere and 138 Economy seats
Jet Airways has announced that it
will commence daily flights from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala to Sharjah from
October 30, 2011. The flight will depart Thiruvananthapuram at 1015 hours
local time and arrive in Sharjah at 1240 hours local time. The return flight
will depart Sharjah at 1340 hours local time, arriving in Thiruvananthapuram
at 1900 hours local time. The airline will deploy its state-of-the-art
Boeing 737-800 aircraft on this new route, offering 16 Premiere and 138
Economy seats. The airline currently operates a daily flight from Kochi,
Kerala to Sharjah. The new addition will be the tenth daily service from
India to the United Arab Emirates and the twenty-second Jet Airways flight
from India to the Gulf.

India clocks world’s second fastest air travel demand in the month of June
after Brazil with a 14 per cent growth: IATA
India's domestic air travel demand
grew at 14 per cent in June, making it the second fastest in the world, the
International Air Transport Association (IATA) recently said. According to
IATA'S latest figures, India clocked second fastest growth rate after
Brazil, which reported a demand expansion of 15.1 per cent in June. IATA
reported that the overall international air passenger traffic increased by
4.4 per cent in June as compared to the like period of last year. According
to IATA, the overall demand for the international passenger service grew by
5.9 per cent and airline capacity expanded by 7.2 per cent in the month.

holiday specialist Holidaybreak in a deal valued at Rs 2260 crore. Cox &
Kings has made an offer for the shareholders of Holidaybreak in what will be
the biggest overseas deal in the travel services industry. Holidaybreak is
nearly seven times as large as Cox & Kings in terms of revenues.

launched in Amritsar and Jaipur respectively, announced JHM Interstate Hotels

JHM Interstate Hotels India, a 50/50
joint venture management company between US-based Interstate Hotels &
Resorts and JHM Hotels, has signed contracts to operate two more hotels in
India. The latest development brings to five; the number of hotel management
contracts executed since the company launched its third party management
platform in India. JHM Interstate currently operates three hotels in India
and boasts of a robust pipeline of third-party management opportunities. The
hotels: 63-keys Rajasthali Resort & Spa, located on the outskirts of Jaipur
and 145-keys Ramada Amritsar are both expected to open doors in the next few
months.

Park Hotels to open a 33-room boutique property on Candolim Beach, Goa by
December and a 178-room property in Kochi by March

MOT signs MoU with Experience India Society (EIS) on July 29, 2011 to
undertake development of a tourism marketing plan to increase tourist arrivals
in India
In a bid to foster private public
partnership and enhance India’s tourism profile in key source markets,
Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Experience India Society (EIS)
have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote and market India as a
preferred tourism destination. The MoU was signed by Anand Kumar, Joint
Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Raymond N. Bickson,
President, EIS and Managing Director and CEO, Indian Hotels, in the presence
of the Union Minister of Tourism Subodh Kant Sahai. The MoU was signed on
July 29, 2011.

In a boost to insurgency-hit
Indian Kashmir’s tourism, Germany became the first country to amend its
travel advisory following a sharp decline in militant violence in the
Himalayan region. The German move was welcomed by Omar Abdullah, Chief
Minister, Kashmir government who called it a ‘pragmatic decision’ and is
expecting that other European countries and US will follow the lead.
