Ecotourism Society of India to conduct their 6th workshop in Srinagar & Leh
on September 26-27 and September 30-October 1 respectively
Encouraged by the success of their
sixth two-day workshop, the Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI) in
partnership with WWF-India and the support of Jammu and Kashmir Tourism and
the PATA India Chapter has announced two more sustainability workshop at Srinagar and Leh. It will be held at Srinagar from September 26-27, 2011 at
SKICC and at Leh from September 30-October 1, 2011 at Tourism Club House.

Pronab Sarkar appointed as IATO’s 2011 convention chairman; the convention
will be held on September 22-25,
2011
The Indian Association of Inbound
Tour Operators has appointed Pronab Sarkar, Vice President, IATO as IATO’s
2011 convention chairman. The association will further deliberate on the
venue and theme of their annual convention cum exhibition on Monday. The
Convention will be held from September 22-25, 2011.

Hotel & Restaurant Association of Northern India announces its annual
convention theme 'Hospitality Industry-Vision 2020', starting from September
23-25 in Amritsar
Hotel & Restaurant Association of
Northern India (HRANI), Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of
India (FHRAI), Northern chapter has announced its annual convention
scheduled from September 23-25 in Amritsar, Punjab. The convention theme is
“Hospitality Industry-Vision 2020” and the venue will be Ista Amritsar.
HRANI boasts of about 1500 hotels and restaurants as its members from, across
Northern India region. About 400 delegates are expected to participate in
the convention.

Qatar Airways to fly daily on Kolkata-Doha route from July 28, 2011
Qatar Airways has announced the
launch of long-awaited Doha-Kolkata service starting July 28, 2011. The
daily connections will be served by A320 aircraft departing Kolkata at 04:10
– arriving Doha at 07:00 and departing Doha at 19:40 with arrival in Kolkata
at 03:10. The new service from India will total the weekly flights to 95
across 12 cities.

Intercontinental Eros now becomes Hilton property
South Delhi located Intercontinental
Eros, New Delhi has now become a Hilton property. With the latest
addition, Hilton now manages as many as three hotels in the national capital
including Hilton New Delhi Janakpuri and Hilton Garden Inn New Delhi Saket.
Other Hilton properties are Hilton Mumbai International Airport and Hilton
Chennai.

‘Premier Inn’, a 3-star property, opens its second hotel in Shalimar Bagh with 143
rooms at Rs 5,500
UK’s biggest hotel chain, Premier
Inn has opened its second property on July 5 in Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi.
The hotel offers 143 rooms at a rate of Rs 5,500 per night. Termed as Family
Friendly, each bedroom caters for two adults and two children. Rooms are
available at the same price irrespective of the number of people in the room
and also provide a free breakfast for upto 2 children under the age of 15.
The hotel was setup with an investment of Rs 92 crores.

Foreign Tourist Arrivals up 7.2% in June 2011
The Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs)
during the month of June 2011 was 3.96 lakh as compared to FTAs of 3.70 lakh
during the month of June 2010 and 3.52 lakh in June 2009. There had been a
growth of 7.2 per cent in June 2011 over June 2010 as compared to a growth
of 4.9 per cent registered in June 2010 over June 2009. FTAs during the
period January-June 2011 were 29.19 lakh with a growth of 10.9 per cent, as
compared to the FTAs of 26.32 lakh with a growth of 8.9 per cent during
January-June 2010 over the corresponding period of 2009.

Indian Railways to roll out its own e-ticketing service which will have no
room for travel agents
Indian Railways is all set to roll
out its own e-ticketing service, which will have no room for travel agents
and will be reserved for individual users. Unlike the e-ticketing service of
IRCTC, the new service by Indian Railway will have no role of travel agents
and commercial organisations. Only individual users will be allowed to book
on the portal. Travel agents in the IRCTC service have been accused of
blocking tickets to sell them at a premium.

Gujarat Tourism to launch special packages for the ‘Monsoon festival’ from
July 15 to August 15, 2011 at Saputara
Gujarat Tourism will be launching a
month-long ‘Monsoon festival’ (July 15-August 15, 2011) at its first hill
station – Saputara. The tourism board has launched special packages for the
same starting at Rs 1,649 and is in talks with travel operators in
Maharashtra and Gujarat to launch more packages. The festival will have
cultural evenings, quizzes, laser show, shopping, tribal dance, etc.

Goa Tourism to begin their global ad campaign in around 150 countries with 8
different languages
Goa Tourism to go ahead with a
nine-week ad campaign which will be showcased around 150 countries across
Europe, Africa and Asia to lure foreign tourists to Goa's beaches. The
overall investment for the TV ad campaign is worth Rs. 20 million and would
reach out to over 60 million viewers across Europe, Africa and South East
Asia. The ads feature many aspects of Goa. It projects Goa as a bouquet of
experiences right from beaches, hinterland, casinos and religious places.
The entire campaign will be broadcast on the Travel Channel International, a
reputed international channel. The campaign will be telecast in eight
languages, which includes English, Polish, German and Russian,” said Swapnil
Naik, Director, Goa Tourism.
