Continental Airlines to become a member of
Star Alliance
Continental Airlines
will soon make a transition from the global airline alliance, SkyTeam, to
Star Alliance. The airline will remain a fully active member of SkyTeam till
October 24, 2009. Thereafter, it will join the Star Alliance, which is the
world’s largest and the most comprehensive airline alliance.

Go India Journey opens office in the US
Go India Journey
recently opened its office in the US, which will cater to the travel and
tours industry in Canada, Mexico and the US. This office will handle Go
India Journey’s business-to-business clients who will now have a local
office to communicate with. The Boston based office will be a Go India
Journey full-service office and will allow ground operators to work
directly with travel agents and tour operators by packaging and operating
tours to India. This will result in rapid communications, up-to-date
information and reduced costs.

PATA teams up with IMTA to boost region's medical tourism
PATA has teamed up with the International Medical Travel Association
(IMTA) to promote and develop healthcare travel and tourism across the
Asia-Pacific region. The two associations have signed a MoU to collaborate
in areas such as data and trends analysis for the healthcare travel sector
as well as exploring opportunities for joint membership. Medical tourism is
recognised as one of the industry's high value sectors.

TAAI Northern Chapter, IATA jointly conduct a
BSP training
The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) Northern Chapter and the
International Air Transport Association (IATA), recently, joined hands to
organise a BSP (Billing and Settlement Plan) training in New Delhi. The
training was organised at The Metropolitan Hotel, New Delhi, on June 9 and
was open only to TAAI accredited representatives.
It was a part of the TAAI’s nationwide initiative to conduct BSP training in
all the major Indian cities. Bineetha Mohanan, manager – customer services,
India, IATA, conducted the four-hour interactive training. The session
covered topics such as Current BSP Training, Current BSP Link Training, BDR
Online training & Web Remittance and was followed by Q & A. The workshop was
for TAAI accredited representatives.

ibis hotel, with 315-rooms, to open at 'Aerocity'
Delhi
ibis Hotels has won development rights for a hotel within the
hospitality district at Delhi “Aerocity”. The construction of the property
will start later this year. Accor, the fastest growing international hotel
operator in India, announced this on June 9. The site was won by Accor’s
joint venture for ibis hotels for the Indian sub-continent – InterGlobe
Hotels, in a bidding process, conducted by Delhi International Airport.
Construction for a 315-room ibis hotel will be done on the 1.7-acre site,
with an option for further expansion. The hotel is expected to open in 2011
at an estimated project cost of Rs 180 crore.

'Courtyard by Marriott' opens in Pune with
153 rooms
Marriott International Inc forayed into Pune with the launch of a chic &
contemporary – Courtyard by Marriott, Pune Hinjewadi. This is the second
Courtyard property in India after its first property launch, three years
back, in Chennai. Located a kilometer off the Hinjewadi/Wakad junction on
the Pune – Bengaluru highway, Courtyard by Marriott, Pune Hinjewadi, offers
153 spacious rooms and six suites. The hotel also offers meeting facilities
divided into four zones, comprising of a sprawling 7200 sq ft of indoor and
outdoor space.

Tourism Australia to host biggest FAM trip
for
100 Indian travel agents in August
Tourism Australia will host the India Mega Famil
Workshop (IMFW) in August 2009. It has invited 100 travel agents, who are
Indian Aussie Specialists, to come to Gold Coast Australia and mingle with
70 Australian vendors during a six-day event. This business, learning and
development forum will reinforce Australia’s position as a desirable travel
destination, and, provide a platform for Australian vendors and leading
travel agents from India to explore business opportunities. The meetings
will take place for four days in which outbound wholesalers will have a
chance to meet one-on-one with Indian travel agents. The second part of the
workshop will be a two-day famil program in which the Gold Coast and
Australia will be actively showcased allowing the Indian travel agents to
experience the destination first hand.

International tourism Fair from 23-30 June
Philippines will host the third Philippine
International Tourism Fair (PITF) from 23– 30 June, 2009. The theme of the
fair will be 'The best Hospitality on earth'....Philippines! This travel
mart will give an opportunity to the Indian trade to interact and forge
business ties with their Filipino counterparts, and boost the tourism
arrivals to the Philippines. Five agents with the potential to promote the
Philippines have been invited from Delhi and Mumbai.
