Air India to fly on Delhi-Seoul route from
August 1, 2010
Air India will add
South Korea’s capital city Seoul to its family of routes this summer. The
airline will deploy a wide-body B-777 aircraft to fly passengers- four times
a week- between the two cities, via Hong Kong from August 1, 2010. In
addition, the airlines, has announced the launch of its direct daily flights
from Melbourne to Delhi from late October/early November this year. The
service also marks the recommencement of Air India’s services to Australia
after nearly a decade.

IGI's Terminal 3 to start commercial
operations from July 14
Delhi
International Airport Ltd’s (DIAL) newest feat, the swanky Terminal 3, will
be formally inaugurated on July 3 and commercial operations would begin from
July 14, 2010. All international airlines will move to T-3 on July 14, and
domestic full service carriers, including their low cost versions will
follow suit on July 30-31, 2010. Following this, T1-D would cater to low
cost carriers only. Spread over 5.4 million square feet, T-3 can handle 34
million passengers a year.

Phuket to host next TAAI Convention
The venue for
the forthcoming Indian Travel Congress, the 59th Convention-cum- Exhibition
of TAAI (Travel Agents Association of India) has been declared as Phuket,
Thailand. The convention is scheduled from September 17-19, 2010. According
to the communiqué, issued by the TAAI office, the Tourism Authority of
Thailand (TAT) has expressed its fullest co-operation to TAAI for reposing
its faith in selecting Phuket.

TAFI Northern India chapter announces office
bearers for 2010-1012 term
At its recent
AGM in New Delhi, TAFI North India chapter elected the new committee for the
term 2010-2012. The chapter will be headed by Anil Kalsi, managing partner,
Ambe World Travels as the chairman. Other members include Vijay Gupta,
managing director, Golden Phoenix Travels, who has been elected as honorary
secretary and Arvinder S Sethi, CMD, Sahibji Tours & Travels, who has
assumed the role of honorary treasurer. Manish Mehta and Gurdevinder Singh
have been elected as the committee members.

ITTA to organise its 3rd annual convention on
August 5
Indian
Tourist Transporters Association (ITTA), national body of tourist
transporters, which is recognised by the Ministry of Tourism, will hold the
third ITTA convention on August 5. “We will hold our annual convention at
the Habitat World in the Indian Habitat Centre on August 5,” Sarab Jit
Singh, President, ITTA informed. The convention will address the issue of
revenue collection by the states from tourist vehicles. The panel would also
unveil an “ITTA Convention Manual” on the occasion.

WTTC invites cities to bid for hosting the
Global Travel & Tourism Summit in 2012
The World
Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has opened the tendering process to find the
host city of the 12th Global Travel & Tourism Summit. The organisation has
issued a request for proposal (RFP) for cities around the world to submit
applications to host the 12th Summit in a little less than two years’ time.
The RFP and the supporting documents must be returned by September 1, 2010
to WTTC’s Events Director, Tony Thompson at tony.thompson@wttc.org.

Oceania Cruises appoints GRIFFON as its India
Representative
Griffon Aviation has been appointed as the representative office of Oceania
Cruises in India. Griffon will be responsible to market and sell Oceania’s
various cruise products in the Indian market. Oceania Cruises sails to more
than 180 ports in Europe, China and the Far East, Australia, New Zealand,
South America, Central America and the Caribbean. It has 3 mid-sized ships,
Regatta, Insignia and Nautica and will introduce in 2010 and 2011 two new
mid-size Oceania-Class ships to its fleet.

Domestic passenger carriage grows by 22% during
January-May 2010
According to passenger data released by
the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, domestic passenger carriage recorded a
21.95 per cent growth during the first five months of this year, compared to
the same period last year. In total, Indian scheduled airlines carried
211.38 lakh passengers compared to 173.34 lakh during January-May last year.
On a month on month basis, May 2010 recorded 48.56 lakh passengers
registering a 21.6 per cent growth over May last year.

Tree of Life Resort and Spa to be unveiled on
August 15 in Jaipur
The Tree of Life Resort and Spa, Jaipur
will be unveiled on August 15. Its founder and owner Himmat Anand said,
“Built in a traditional style using lime plaster and stone, with hardly any
use of cement and steel, the resort blends with the natural surroundings of
its village setting. Each villa here is named after a tree.” The 14-villa
property is set in seven acres of land just outside Jaipur (it’s about 16km
from Amber Fort).

Thailand witnesses 22% growth in arrivals
from India
If the total arrival figures of Indian
tourists to Thailand is anything to go by, outbound tourism to Thailand have
remained strong so far this year. According to the statistics received from
Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the destination has received 277,393
Indian arrivals between Jan-May, 2010 against 226,829 for the same period
last year, registering a growth of more than 22 per cent in the first five
months this year. Thailand received 614,562 Indian tourists last year,
growing by 14.45 per cent.

Revised visa fee for Embassy of Spain comes
into effect from July 1
Effective July 1, 2010, the visa fee for
Embassy of Spain will be Rupees 3,424/- per application. Draft/s for the
visa fee should be in favour of Embassy of Spain, New Delhi for Northern
Region. All visa applications submitted on June 30, 2010 should have drafts
of the new fees as the passports will be deposited in the Embassy on July 1,
2010.
