Indigo to launch 6 new flights from June 4
 
Indigo, a low-cost domestic carrier, will launch six new flights on its network from June 4, 2010. It will operate its fifth flight on Delhi to Kolkata to Delhi sector and third non-stop flight on Kolkata to Bengaluru to Kolkata sector. In addition, flights will be launched on two new sectors, Bengaluru to Kochi and Kochi to Kolkata. With the addition of new flights, Indigo will now operate a total of 176 flights connecting 22 destinations in India.

Air Asia X to launch direct daily flight on Delhi-Kuala Lumpur route
 
Air Asia X, the low-cost long-haul affiliate carrier of Air Asia, has announced the launch of its Delhi-Kuala Lumpur daily direct flight from August 4 this year. As a promotional offer, the airline will offer 1,000 free seats on this sector for the travel period from August 4-August 31, 2010. However, this offer can only be availed on online bookings made on June 5, 2010. The free ticket will cost the traveller Rs. 1862 as a one way fare, comprising only the airport fees including taxes.

PATA India roadshows attract 600 select delegates
 
The five roadshows organised by PATA India chapter from May 11-20, 2010 in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Boston, and Toronto generated good business leads for the 14 supplier participants from India and its format was appreciated by all the stakeholders. There were close to 500-600 select invitees, who attended the road shows at different locations. All the stakeholders were impressed by the insightful presentations made by the Sujit Banerjee, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and chairman, PATA India Chapter.

FICCI-Yes Bank study suggests 10-point agenda to attract Rs 20,000 crore investment in tourism infrastructure in Karnataka
 
FICCI-Yes Bank study has made a 10 point suggestion to Karnataka, which has plans to attract Rs 20,000 crore worth of investment in tourism infrastructure over the next five years and create 200,000 new jobs. The study has called for encouragement to local participation and entrepreneurship, Development of Infrastructure for growth of Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises, Micro Public Private Partnership initiatives, Single Window Clearance and Need for augmentation of Transport Infrastructure among other suggestions.

IAAI files writ petition at Kerala High Court to direct MoCA and DGCA for enforcing commission
 
The IATA Agents Association of India (IAAI) has approached the High Court of Kerala, a fifth time, seeking justice on the commission issue and legal steps against the foreign airlines, who have implemented 'zero commision' policy in India. According to Biji Eapen, president, IAAI, the Writ Petition, mandamus in nature, seeking MoCA and DGCA to enforce commission as per the Laws, has been admitted May 31 by the High Court of Kerala and notices have been sent to the Respondents viz. MoCA, DGCA and IATA India.

DGCA issues new directives on 'correct landing' to aircraft operators
 
In view of the recent incidents/accident in the aviation sector, the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) has issued fresh directives on Standard Operating Procedures to all scheduled, non-scheduled and general aircraft operators. In the directive on ‘correct’ landings, the DGCA has said “Based on feedback received from various quarters it is felt that pilots need to be made aware that achieving a particular “G” (“G” is the acceleration constant for gravity) value on touchdown is no measure of a good landing. Landings should be judged not by how soft the landing has been, but if it has been made at the correct speed and touchdown zone on the runway. The DGCA has also issued fresh directive pertaining to standard procedures for manning of cockpit.

MOT offers incentives to guest houses in national capital territory to get upgraded before CWG
 
 
The Ministry of Tourism (MOT) has launched an interest subsidy up gradation scheme for the licensed guest houses in the NCT of Delhi. MOT would provide interest subsidy on loan of maximum Rs 2 lakh per room basis subject to an overall upper limit of Rs 60 lakh per guest house for application sanctioned up to 31 July with the deadline for up gradation works on or before 20 September. As per official estimates of the ministry around 11,028 rooms would be available from the licensed Guest Houses in the NCT of Delhi during the Commonwealth Games.

Turkey to give visa-on-arrival to Indians
 

The Turkish Embassy at New Delhi has announced that Indian passport holders bearing valid Schengen, UK or USA visas are being granted 30-day-valid entry visas at the border gates of Turkey upon their arrival. Indian citizens, who wish to obtain the visa on arrival in Turkey, would be required to submit information about their hotel reservations, one passport size photograph, 15 Euro / 20 US Dollars and a copy of their return flight ticket.

Macau woos Indian carriers by offering rebates on launching direct flights
 
In a bid to attract Indian carriers flying international to initiate services to Macau, the Macau International Airport Company (CAM) has decided to offer special incentives to the first carrier which will launch its direct fights between India and Macau. The incentives include a 50 per cent rebate on the passenger and the landing fee for the first two years of operations. In 2009, Macau received 1,07,513 travellers from India.

Bird Academy signs MoU with Star Alliance to train travel agents across India
 
Bird Academy, the educational arm of the Bird Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Star Alliance to conduct training programmes for IATA Travel Agents in India. The one-day training programme is designed to enhance communication and persuasion skills of agency staff in promoting Star Alliance products and enable them to enhance customer experience. On successful completion of the programme, the participants will be awarded a joint certificate by Bird Academy and Star Alliance.
