SpiceJet reduces fare up to Rs 600 on advance purchase of tickets
 
SpiceJet has reduced its fare for all bookings made for 30 or more days in advance. This will be applicable on all its 119 flights in the summer schedule across 18 destinations. The reduction is up to Rs 600 per ticket.

Etihad Airways' new schedule to facilitate long-haul connections
 
Etihad Airways is set to enhance its schedule within India to provide increased long haul connectivity and better frequency, including a change in flight schedules. Etihad is also streamlining its services to key destinations in response to changing demands. From March 30, 2009 it will operate all India flights as early morning departures. The UAE national carrier operates flights to six destinations in India like Kochi, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Chennai and New Delhi. The flight schedules are restructured to meet the changing requirements of customers. The Thiruvananthapuram flight will connect to long haul destinations like Canada and New York. Also, European destinations like Milan, Frankfurt and Moscow will see increased frequency from Chennai.

JetLite introduces new daily service on Kozhikode - Mumbai route from March 29
 
Effective March 29, JetLite, Jet Airways’ wholly-owned all economy subsidiary, will introduce a new daily service on the Mumbai – Kozhikode – Mumbai sector. The new daily Mumbai – Kozhikode-Mumbai flights will be operated by JetLite’s all-economy Boeing 737 series aircraft. JetLite’s flight S2 423 will depart Mumbai at 1125 hrs, and will arrive in Kozhikode at 1305 hrs. Flight S2 424 will depart Kozhikode at 1335 hrs and will arrive in Mumbai at 1510 hrs.

JetLite, as part of its inaugural offer on the Kozhikode-Mumbai- Kozhikode sector, has introduced attractive fares of Rupee 1 plus taxes for bookings 30 days prior to travel, Rs. 500 plus taxes for bookings made 20 days prior to travel and Rs. 750 plus taxes for bookings made 10 days prior to travel.

Domestic air traffic to grow by 25-30 per cent over the next two years: CAPA
 
According to a latest study report published by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), domestic traffic in India will grow at 25-30 per cent over the next two years. The report also predicts that international traffic from India will grow by 15 per cent during the same period, in contrast to the global air traffic, which is growing at five per cent. The international passenger traffic from India witnessed an increase of 8.7 per cent over the last one year to 2.35 crore in April-December, according to the statistics published by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). According to a KPMG study aviation industry in India has showed re-silience last year despite the unprecedented aviation turbine fuel hike. Though the domestic passenger traffic dipped by 5.8 per cent over the past one year, experts say this can be overcome through consolidation.

Qatar Airways to launch service from Goa and Amritsar this year
 
Qatar Airways has announced that it will launch services from Goa and Amritsar this year. The announcement was made by Akbar Al Baker, CEO, Qatar Airways at the recently concluded ITB Berlin travel show. After adding the two new routes, Qatar Airways’ Indian destinations will cover 11 cities in India. At present, the airline has direct services to nine destinations across India which includes daily flight to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Kozhikode and twice-weekly to Nagpur. Currently, the airline operates 58 flights from India.

Svayam, a charitable trust, in association with the ministry of transport, government of Delhi and the ministry of tourism, government of India, is organising a conference on 'Accessible Transportation & Tourism’ on March 24-25 at India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The conference will start with discussions on ‘Accessible Transportation’ on the first day, which will be followed by ‘Accessible Tourism’ on the day two. According to the organisers, apart from the respective government officials and travel trade industry, world renowned accessibility experts like Tom Rickert, Lalita Sen, Jamie Osborne will share their expertise and cite case studies on the accessible transportation and tourism.

Tripura Tourism Development Corporation created for promotion of tourism
 
The government of Tripura has set up Tripura Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) to promote tourism in a big way and to tap fully the tourism potential of the state. TTDC has started functioning and process to register it as a company will soon be completed. First of all TTDC will explore the ways to tap the state’s potential in tourism. It will identify the area in tourism sector for investment. The government of Tripura has also planned to set up 4-star hotel in Agartala. The hotel will be developed under the PPP mode. IL&FS has been hired by the state government to prepare DPR for the proposed hotel and to select private party through bidding to develop the hotel.

MakeMyTrip.com ties up with Amadeus for international air ticket booking solutions
 
MakeMyTrip.com has announced its exclusive tie-up with Amadeus for international air ticket booking by utilising the latter company’s GDS platform. Previously MakeMyTrip was using the Amadeus system for the domestic air ticket booking. The announcement was made on March 19 in New Delhi by Keyur Joshi, co-founder and COO, MakeMyTrip.com and Ankur Bhatia, managing director, Amadeus India. According to Joshi, the travel agency business is becoming more complex and the online solution will gain more importance to offer the customers more choice in terms of pricing and variety. Joshi also added that the tie-up would double the international sale of the company in the days to come from 300 air tickets a day at present.
