AIRLINES Frankfurt to be the hub for Air India's West bound flight Effective March 29, 2009, Frankfurt will become the hub for Air India’s West-bound flights. Passengers who wish to travel from Delhi to Newark will be transferred to the Mumbai-Newark flight at Frankfurt. Likewise, passengers from Mumbai who wish to proceed to Chicago will be transferred to the Delhi – Chicago flight at Frankfurt. Besides, the hub and spoke operations from / to Kochi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad will offer direct and seamless connectivity to Frankfurt – Newark / Chicago flights. Mayfair Hotels & Resorts is all set to open
its fifth property ‘Mayfair Gangtok Spa Resort & Casino’ in Sikkim later
this month. Touted to be the first five star deluxe hotel in North-eastern
India, the property will boast of 63 cottages and exclusive villas spread
over 48 acres sylvan land. The property is set on an exclusive hill with
almost all rooms offering a view of the famous Rumtek Monastery. Besides,

The ministry of tourism, government of India
on February 24, 2009, presented the National Tourism Awards for the year
2007-2008 to various segments of the travel and tourism industry. The
awards were presented by P. Chidambaram, minister for home affairs,
government of India at The Ashok, New Delhi. Also present on the occasion
were Ambika Soni, minister for tourism and culture, Kanti Singh, minister of
state for tourism and culture, Sujit Banerjee, tourism secretary, ministry
of tourism and Leena Nandan, joint secretary, ministry of tourism.

Devesh Chaturvedi is the additional director general (tourism), MOT
The ministry of tourism, government of India,
has made some changes in its hierarchy. Devesh Chaturvedi has now been
appointed additional director general (tourism), ministry of tourism,
government of India. He was earlier the director India tourism. M.M. Javed
is now the regional director India tourism, Frankfurt. His earlier
assignment was as deputy director general, hotels and restaurants. J.B.
Shaw has been promoted to the position of deputy director general-travel
trade. He earlier held the designation of director tourism at India
tourism Johannesburg.
