SpiceJet announces direct flights
between Ahmedabad-Kolkata and Kolkata-Hyderabad as part of its summer
schedule 2010
SpiceJet has announced its
schedule for the summer of 2010. The schedule offers new routes and better
connectivity between key cities in the network. The new routes include
Ahmedabad-Kolkata and Kolkata-Hyderabad direct flights. SpiceJet has also
increased its operations in the North-East by commencing daily return
flights to Agartala from Kolkata to commence from 15th April. The
airline also announced its second Kolkata-Guwahati flight with convenient
evening timings.

Travel and Tourism Association of Goa appeals
to MHA to re-look into the new visa regime
The Travel and Tourism Association of Goa has appealed to the
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to re-look into the new visa regime that
imposes checks on the foreign tourist visa loaded with the facility of
multiple entry. The appeal was made taking into account that new visa regime
can adversely impact the flow of foreign tourist arrivals to Goa. Many of
the affluent and well healed European travellers, who used to stay for a
period beyond 90 days, and many other foreign visitors, who used to visit
Goa twice during the new year celebrations and during the Easter holidays
will now be adversely affected.

Fortune Hotels, in
collaboration with Jupiter LifeLine Hospitals, opened Fortune Park LakeCity
in Thane on 18th March. This 58-key hotel with 24 standard rooms,
16 Fortune Club rooms and 15 suites is a unique business hotel tailored for
medical tourism. Fortune Hotels will be managing the property for Jupiter
LifeLine Hospitals, which is located adjacent to the hotel. This is a
one-of-a-kind venture to give impetus to medical tourism in Thane and
Mumbai.

The Park Hotels launch luxury cruiser
Apsara in Kerala
The Park Hotels recently
announced the launch of the brand’s seventh property, marking its foray into
the leisure segment. The Park Hotels has launched an eight-cabin luxury
cruiser, Apsara alongside a 10 luxury room resort, The Park on
Vembanad Lake. Akin to a floating boutique hotel, the eight-cabin
cruiser takes visitors to the tranquil waters of Kerala’s Vembanad Lake. The
28m cruiser, built on two levels has a galley, saloon and dining area, in
addition to a sundeck and panoramic forward seating area.

Assam's first five-star hotel, Vivanta
by Taj to mark Taj's foray into North-East India
The Indian Hotels
Company has announced its plans to launch a new hotel in North-East India
with the announcement of Vivanta by Taj - Guwahati, Assam. The
announcement marks Taj’s foray into North-East region. The property
will be located on a 4.5 acre site at G S Road in Guwahati. It will be the
city’s first five-star hotel for a target clientele of business and leisure
travellers. The company has been allotted the land on a long term lease for
development of a 150-room premium property as part of the State’s overall
development agenda. The proposed site is in close proximity to key business
districts, the Government Secretariat and the airport.

has now decided to commence strategic market research programme in four
overseas source markets. The findings of this market research programme will
provide an in-depth knowledge of the new travel preferences among the

Protection of tourists tops MOT's fourth
inter-regional meet's agenda
The issue of
tourists’ security and safety gained major focus at the fourth Inter-Regional Meet organised by the Ministry of Tourism (MOT) for seven of the
western Indian states and union territories (UTs). The meet was inaugurated
by Kumari Selja, Union minister of tourism. There emerged a common consensus
among the participants that sustaining the initial burst of travellers
through a successful marketing campaign largely depends on constant
up-gradation of the tourism infrastructure along with the hard earned
reputation of being a safe destination.
