IAAI writes to airlines seeking 5% commission to maintain continuity for the present

As a follow up to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) order issued on 11 March, 2010, the IATA Agents’ Association of India (IAAI) has written to the 16 respondent foreign airlines, regarding the quantum of commission. According to Biji Eapen, president, IAAI, in order to meet the Kerala High Court’s statutory requirements, a quantum of commission at five per cent on gross has been requested to maintain the continuity for the present. He also made it clear that this will only be an interim arrangement. The fraternity retains the right to negotiate for a higher percentage of commission, depending on the industry requirements as per the mandates. He urged for a cohesive action programme to be chalked out by all travel associations immediately. The airlines, however, sought more time from DGCA before making any announcement on the re-introduction of commission.
