Minister of Tourism inaugurates Akbar Travels’ new office at terminal 1-D,
domestic airport, New Delhi
Akbar Travel Group, the
leading conglomerate with 56 IATA offices and 12 other offices spread across
different parts of the world, opened its new office at terminal 1-D at the
domestic airport. The group already has presence at Mumbai, Bengaluru and a
few other metro airports. Subodh Kant Sahay, Union Minister of Tourism
inaugurated Akbar Travels new office on 25 February 2011.

Non-European Rail Operators (NERO) products for the Indian market. It is now
offering products of countries like US, Canada, Korea, Japan and India. It

Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI) to organise 3, ‘Responsible Tourism’
workshops in J&K, first from April 6-7
Ecotourism Society of
India (ESOI) will organise three ‘Practising Responsible Tourism’ workshops
in Jammu & Kashmir. The three workshops will be organised in each of the
three regions of the states, i.e. Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh as informed by
the Jammu & Kashmir Minister of Tourism, Nawang Rigzin Zora. ESOI has now
already announced dates of its first workshop (April 6-7) in the state to be
held at MCA Auditorium, University of Jammu, JAMMU. This is also ESOI’s
sixth India series workshop.

AVIATION
Domestic passenger traffic continues to soar; up 21% in January 2011
According to data released
by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, domestic passenger traffic recorded a
20.7 per cent growth during January 2011, compared to the corresponding
month last year. During the first month of 2011, the scheduled domestic
airlines in India carried 49.36 lakh passengers, as against 40.88 lakh
during the same month last year.

Virgin Atlantic Airways reduces agency
commission from 5% to 3% effective March 1, 2011
Virgin Atlantic Airways
has slashed its agency commission from five per cent to three per cent
applicable on base fare. This is one of the moves by the airlines to cut
cost and manage revenues.

IATA downgrades aviation industry’s profit
outlook for 2011 to $8.6bn from $9.1 billion
The International Air
Transport Association (IATA) has downgraded the aviation industry's profit
outlook in 2011 to $8.6 billion from $9.1 billion (estimated in December
2010) on account of rising crude oil price. The new estimate is a 46 per
cent fall in net profits compared to the $16 billion (revised from $ 15.1
billion) earned by the industry in 2010.

has announced the launch of Four Points by Sheraton in Pune and
Visakhapatnam with Duet India Hotels and Vishnupriya Hotels and Resorts
respectively. The Four Points Pune recently opened its doors to guests and
Four Points Visakhapatnam is scheduled to open in March 2011. They have
plans to aggressively increase their existing portfolio in India of 30

J&K Tourism Minister invites travel trade for joint promotion, MOT, GOI, to
chip in with one-third of the promotion cost
As part of its initiative
to promote state’s tourism products in the domestic market, the Jammu &
Kashmir Tourism has invited the domestic tour trade for joint marketing
promotions. This was announced by J&K Minister of Tourism, Nawang Rigzin
Zora at the JKTA seminar. Also speaking at the seminar, Devesh Chaturvedi,
DG Tourism, Government of India informed that MOT, GOI, can support such
joint promotion by state tourism department and approved tour operators by
bearing one-third of the promotion cost.
