Paramount Airways, an all business class airline, introduces daily Delhi-Chennai flight
Paramount Airways recently announced the launch of its daily flights from Chennai to Delhi. The airline forays into Northern India sector following its recent announcement of flights to Kolkata and North-East India. The carrier will operate e-jet 175 on this route with a two class configuration of 11 seats in first class and 64 seats in business class. The airline has announced a one-way all inclusive introductory fare of Rs 5,800, valid for a limited period.

Air India to have an MRO and Engineering centre at Shamshabad Airport, Hyderabad
Air India recently started construction of a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and Engineering centre at Shamshabad Airport, Hyderabad. Built over five acres of land the facilities at the new airport will consist of a hangar, where major maintenance of aircraft will be carried out, and an annexe building to accommodate component overhaul shops and various engineering offices. The size of the hangar will be about 100 metres x 90 metres x 24 metres (height). The new hangar will be capable of accommodating two A320 family aircraft simultaneously or one B777/B747 aircraft. The facilities will be created at an approximate cost of Rs 80 crore and is expected to be ready in 18 months.

GoAir start flights to Guwahati and Bagdogra, inducts a new A320 aircraft
GoAir announced operations to two new major destinations, Guwahati and Bagdogra starting May 21. The airline will offer an all inclusive starting fare of Rs 2,400 and Rs 2,900 for flights to new destinations originating from Delhi and Mumbai respectively. GoAir also announced the induction of one brand new A320 aircraft, taking the total number of aircraft in its fleet to seven. With the addition of Guwahati and Bagdogra routes, GoAir has now expanded its services to the East of India after establishing a good presence in the north, west and southern regions of the country. The addition of the two new routes takes the total number of destinations serviced by GoAir to 13 and total number of weekly flights provided by the airline to 335.

TAAI Pune chapter becomes the first chapter to host BSP training
The idea of hosting BSP training for it's members across India was recently conceived by TAAI (Travel Agents Association of India) Managing Committee and the national president, Rajji Rai. TAAI Pune chapter, leading the way, recently conducted one such meet. According to Amarjit Lidder, chairperson, TAAI Pune chapter, said, “A BSP training was recently carried out by TAAI Pune chapter at Hotel Le Royce. The interactive session received an overwhelming response from its 32 participants. This was a ‘first’ by any chapter. The feedback was extremely positive. While some felt that training of this nature should be conducted every quarter others felt that it should be on a yearly basis. There also existed a viewpoint that such training should be conducted every time a new feature is being introduced in the system.” Lidder also hinted at the possibility of such training being conducted by other chapters as well.

Amadeus signs agreement with Yatra.com to distribute hotel content
Amadeus has signed a major agreement with the leading online travel company, Yatra.com, to distribute its hotel content on Amadeus’ Global Distribution System (GDS). As a result, for the first time, more than 100,000 travel agencies using the Amadeus GDS will be able to offer travellers a choice of over 900 one to three-star and independent hotels in India. Demand for mid-range and independent hotels is growing as travellers look for more budget-friendly options in today’s economic climate. According to Ankur Bhatia, managing director, Amadeus India, this agreement with Yatra.com will deliver more choice for travellers, and help Yatra.com and its hotel partners reach out to new markets, which in turn will increase revenues for the Indian travel industry. Dhruv Shringi, co-founder and CEO, Yatra.com, said that this new deal will strengthen Yatra.com’s global expansion.

Emaar MGF’s, a joint venture between MGF Developments and Emaar Properties PJSC, Dubai, much-awaited hospitality debut began with the launch of Fortune Select Metropolitan in Jaipur recently. Spain tourism opens representative office in Mumbai
Joan Mesquida, secretary – state, Spain tourism, recently announced the opening of the national tourist office of Spain in India. The representative office would be based in Mumbai and will be headed by Miguel Nieto Sandoval as tourism counsellor, director of the tourism department. Nieto takes charge of the India market from the outgoing director Enrique Ruiz de Lera. The objective behind setting up an office in Mumbai is to further augment Indian outbound traffic to Spain, enhance destination visibility and promote Spain as an important tourist destination in Europe.
