IndiGo introduces six new flights
IndiGo recently launched six new flights, which have started operating between Mumbai-Goa, Mumbai-Hyderabad, Mumbai-Kolkata, Hyderabad-Mumbai and Kolkata-Goa via Mumbai. These new flights became operational from April 29. With the launch of these new services and expansion of its route network, IndiGo at present is operating 131 daily flights connecting 17 destinations across India.

Now book budget hotels on Galileo
 
Leading global distribution system, Galileo in India will provide budget hotel, B&B and guesthouse content in India for travel agents. The services known as Galileo Budget Hotels (GBH) will link over 10,000 hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses by 2012. According to company sources, Galileo has a market leadership in domestic and international star category and luxury hotels with over 83,000 hotels available to 12,000 travel agency branches and terminals. This inventory can be searched and booked from the existing single window of Galileo GDS and does not require additional cost. The GBH inventory will enable customers to have access to hundreds of small to mid-sized hotel providers (1, 2 and 3 star category), guest houses, heritage properties, home stays and camps via Inventory Management Systems of Intech Hotel Solutions.

The Claridges Surajkund, Delhi, NCR opens with 74 rooms
 
The Claridges Hotels & Resorts now boasts of four operational properties with the addition of its much awaited fourth property 'The Claridges Surajkund, Delhi, NCR.' The property was recently soft-launched with 74 guest rooms, Oasis - the all day dining facility, Blue Bar, Art Lounge and banquet facilities in the first phase. The complete inventory is expected to be operational by November. The hotel is located in the sylvan surroundings of Surajkund in Faridabad at the outskirts of the national capital and is about 15 minutes drive from South Delhi.

Usha Lexus Hotels to open seven sales offices in key Indian markets
 
Usha Lexus Hotels & Resorts has seven operational properties in India since its establishment in 1992. The hotel company is now looking at strengthening its distribution network both internationally as well as on the domestic front. The company also plans to open seven more sales offices apart from appointing GSAs in major source markets. On the domestic front, to strengthen its distribution network, seven sales offices are expected to open by the end of next quarter in Chandigarh, Indore, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Jaipur, Pune and another place in Punjab. Currently, the Delhi headquartered hotel company has dedicated sales offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Mysore.

Indian arrivals to Dubai grew by 20% in 2008
 
The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) recently announced the performance results of the hotel industry in 2008, according to which, the Indian arrivals to Dubai witnessed an outstanding number of 493,318 in 2008, posting a record growth rate of 20 per cent as compared to 2007. The number of hotel guests from the countries where DTCM operates representative offices has been impressive during 2008. There was an 8.3 per cent increase in the number of hotel guests in 2008 as compared to the previous year. Dubai hotels and hotel apartments played host to 7,531,299 guests as against 6,951,798 in 2007. The guest nights increased by 9.2 per cent in 2008 to touch 22,421,067. The number of hotels and hotel apartments stood at 493, an increase of 11 per cent over the previous year. The average length of stay touched 2.98 as compared to 7.3 in 2007.

Macau to host 10th IIFA awards in June
 
With the dawn of the 10th year celebrations, IIFA will be celebrating the Videocon IIFA weekend in Macau from June 11-13. The event will be hosted at the Venetian hotel, Macau. Macau is a city on the move that has retained its unique blend of European and Chinese cultures that are over four centuries old. Helena de Senna Fernandes, deputy director, Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) said, “We are pleased to have the 10th IIFA award celebrations in Macau this year which also coincides with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Macau Special Administrative Region. 'Sanya (City) Tourism Association' organises roadshows
 
‘Sanya (City) Tourism Association’ (STA), a representative body of various travel, tourism and hospitality players of Sanya city, located in Hainan Province in China, recently came to India on a two-city (Delhi and Mumbai) roadshow to showcase the destination to the Indian trade. The STA on its first visit to India informed about the city of Sanya, a tropical destination billed as the southern most point of China is a year round destination with exotic beaches, tropical rainforest and mountains. The delegates comprising tour operators, hoteliers and theme park representatives showcased their offerings to the Indian trade.

Kerala records 16.11% growth in international arrivals
 
Kerala recorded a 16.11 per cent growth in international arrivals in 2008-09, amidst the downturn. A total of 598,929 foreign tourists visited Kerala in 2008-09, up 80,000 from the previous year. In 2008, the rest of India’s overall growth was about 5.6 per cent and international growth rate was about 2 per cent. In the domestic sector, Kerala received 7,591,250 visitors, which is an increase of 14 per cent over the previous year. In the current financial year, Kerala will initiate focussed approach with continuing sensible investments in brand marketing with sharper focus on value. There will be renewed focus on domestic market too, informed Venu V, secretary, Kerala Tourism.
