AIRLINES Jet Airways ties up with Virgin Atlantic for Mumbai-London route Jet Airways and Virgin Atlantic recently announced a code-share agreement on the Mumbai-London route. With effect from May 6, 2009, the code-share agreement provides guests with the exclusive option of booking tickets with Virgin Atlantic to travel with Jet Airways on their double daily service between Mumbai and London’s Heathrow Airport. Meanwhile, Jet Airways has initiated special return economy, premier and first class fares to London from selected Indian cities, effective from May 11, 2009 to June 30, 2009. To avail these fares, passengers must complete their bookings by May 31, 2009. Keeping in mind the increasing demand for helicopter services and the technological changes pertaining to helicopter equipment, the directorate general of civil aviation office is considering to further liberalise the existing rules and regulations for helicopter services in India. Speaking at a seminar on ‘ Prospects and Challenges: Civil Helicopter Industry’, which was held recently in New Delhi, Nasim Zaidi, director general, civil aviation, government of India informed that the DGCA office has already taken some initiatives in this regard and deputed one official specially for looking after the matter. The DGCA also added that the government has decided to promote heli tourism in the country and setting up heliports and helipads to provide infrastructure for the same.
