AIRLINES
 

'flydubai' to start services on Dubai-Lucknow route
 
In a bid to tap the expatriate traffic from India to the Gulf, flydubai, Dubai’s low cost carrier, has announced the launch of its maiden flight to India. Beginning June 2, the airline will connect Dubai to Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. It would operate thrice a week with one-way fare (including all taxes and one piece of hand luggage) for travel between Lucknow and Dubai being Rs 6,300.

ASSOCIATION

IATO's annual convention to be held from Sept 2-5
 
The Indian Association of Tour Operators’ (IATO) annual convention would be held from September 2-5. The venue and the chairman for the Convention Committee are yet to be decided. IATO’s executive committee has also recently visited Maharashtra and explored option of holding the convention in the state, however, Vijay Thakur, president, IATO confirmed that the association is yet to decide on the venue.

India registers positive growth of 1.7% in FTAs in April
 
Despite closure of airspace for more than a week in Europe due to volcanic eruption in Iceland, India registered a positive growth of 1.7 per cent in Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in April 2010. FTAs during the month of April 2010 were 3.54 lakh as compared to 3.48 lakh during the month of April 2009. Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEE) in US$ terms during the month of April 2010 were US$ 1013 million as compared to FEE of US$ 811 million during the month of April 2009.

Macau Tourism to hold mini-mart for agents in Mumbai and Delhi
 
The Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) is holding a mini-mart for travel agents in Mumbai and Delhi. The mini-mart is being held on May 18 and Mumbai and May 20 at Delhi. At the mini-mart, agents will be able to interact with the Macau trade and explore opportunities of enhancing business in the MICE segment.

IRCTC launches train tour package to Kashmir
 
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, launched a train tour package to Kashmir on 7 May. In this endeavour, IRCTC office in Mumbai has launched an exclusive 7 night and 8 days package to Kashmir at a price of Rs 13,799 per person. This comprehensive tour package will start from Mumbai on the 17th of May, 2010 and includes confirmed train ticket, hotel accommodation, stay in house boat, meals, and sight seeing.

Cabinet committee on external affairs approves 'Immigration, Visa and Foreigner's Registration & Tracking' project to strengthen security
 
The cabinet committee on economic affairs approved modernisation and up gradation of immigration services as one of the mission mode projects (MMP) to be undertaken by the ministry of home affairs. The core objective of this MMP titled, ‘Immigration, Visa and Foreigners Registration & Tracking (IVFRT)’ project is to develop and implement a secure and integrated service delivery framework that facilitates legitimate travellers while strengthening security.
