Aviation sector needs $30 bn investment over next 15 years: Nasim Zaidi
 
In order to keep up with the boom in passenger and cargo traffic, Civil Aviation Secretary, Nasim Zaidi today said that the sector will need $30 billion over the next 15 years. He was speaking at ASSOCHAM centenary conference on civil aviation. He also said that 12 greenfield airports are currently being developed, and that a proposal has been made to make a national register of airports which will act as a database of all airports in the country.

Many innovative consumer oriented services will be part of their technology with products like "Abacus Virtually There" and "Abacus Webstart" for mobile transaction which would be highly purposeful for travel trade. Abacus Mobile was launched in March for the Indian market and the response has been overwhelming, he claimed.

JHM Interstate to manage two newly opened ‘Four Points by Sheraton Hotels’ in Pune and Vizag
 
JHM Interstate Hotels India, a 50/50 joint venture management company between Interstate and JHM Hotels, has opened two new-build hotels in India: the 217-room Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Pune and the 126-room Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Visakhapatnam. The 217-key Pune hotel also includes 48 Serviced Apartments and is located in Central Pune in easy accessibility of city’s airport. The Vizag property also boasts of a city-centre location. It has 6,232 square feet of flexible meeting and function space apart from other facilities like lounge bas, outdoor pool, spa etc. JHM Interstate is a third party hotel management company.

National Tourism Advisory Committee (NTAC) conducts first meeting on May 4, 2011 to discuss promotion and marketing
 
The Joint Secretary and Ministry of Tourism conducted the first meeting of the sub-group on promotion and marketing under National Tourism Advisory Committee in New Delhi. The sub-group will conduct another meeting to continue building a roadmap for marketing and promotions in the next fortnight. Earlier, the Union Minister of Tourism, Subodh Kant Sahai had conducted the first meeting of the reconstituted National Tourism Advisory Council (NTAC) in March.

Philippines conducts a very successful buyer and seller meet ‘Philindex 2011’ in Manila
 
The first edition of Philindex 2011 – the tourism exchange programme jointly organised by Department of Tourism, The Philippines and Philippine Airlines Limited in Manila was concluded with an aim to enhance tourism between both the countries. A total of 20 travel agents from India were hosted by DoT Philippines and PAL to meet over 40 sellers from various segments of Philippines tourism industry.

VisitBritain, Britain’s Tourism Authority is going to launch it’s global campaign – ‘Britain – You’re Invited’ (BYI) in India during ‘Destination Britain and Ireland’ workshop scheduled in Bengaluru from May 16- 18. The campaign is pegged as an invitation to the world to Britian who are hosting an unprecedented series of celebrations and events including the recent Royal Wedding, the Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games.

In bid to expand its platter of tourism destinations, which already include sites of historical and religious importance, scenic rivers and much more, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has embarked on the development of tourism facilities at selected irrigation project facilities under the Jalayagnam initiative. APTDC has identified 5 sites including Kadem, Brahmasagar, Gundlakamma, Yeleru and Priyadarshini Jurala, for creating facilities like jetties & boating, food courts, accommodation and other ancillary facilities under the public private partnership format.
