GITB 2010 recieves confirmation of 83 foreign buyers from 31 countries for participation
 
The Great India Travel Bazaar (GITB) 2010 has received confirmations of 83 foreign buyers from 31 countries for participation. The event will be organised from April 11-13 at B.M. Birla Convention Centre, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. Over 200 foreign buyers from around 45 countries are expected to attend this event. With majority of the buyers visiting the travel bazaar for the first time, it comes as an opportunity for Indian sellers to tap new markets across the globe. GITB 2010 is jointly organised by Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

ITDC signs six more properties under the recently launched Ashok Alliance franchise scheme
 
The state-owned India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) recently signed MoU with six Greenfield hotels across five states, under Ashok Alliance scheme. Spread across 3 to 5-star hotel categories, these properties will come up in West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. Launched in August’ 09, Ashok Alliance scheme enables private developers or owners to enter into franchise arrangement with ITDC for brand Ashok and also benefit from ITDC’s expertise in operational management, sales & marketing support and more. ITDC had earlier signed two more hotels in August.

Anantara to enter India market
 
Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas recently announced that it will be opening its first property in India at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu in 2011. Thereafter, it will open eight more properties by 2015. The Thai-based hotel group is currently present in four countries with 11 hotels. In the next five years, the group plans to open 40 hotels across the globe.  After Mahabalipuram, Anantara Hotels will be looking at opening properties in Rajasthan, Goa, Gujarat and Kerala.

The Address Hotels + Resorts, which recently established its presence in India by appointing Nijhawan Group as its India representative for sales and marketing support, has opened doors of its fifth property, The Address Dubai Marina. The hotel offers 200 rooms including 28 suites, extensive conference facilities, five restaurants and lounges and a luxurious spa. It also has 442 serviced apartments. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to provide Rs 395.63 crore loan for Uttar Pradesh Buddhist Circuit Development Project
 
Kumari Selja, Union minister of tourism, has informed that the Government of India has entered into a loan agreement with the JICA for loan assistance. The aid agreement is to the tune of Rs 395.63 crore for Uttar Pradesh Buddhist Circuit Development Project. This project includes development of Buddhist centres situated at Sarnath, Kushi Nagar, Kapilavastu, Sravasti and Sankisa. It will focus on improving nearly 74 km of road component; storm water drainage system at Kushi Nagar and Sravasti, and signage import in the archaeological sites of the area.

Holland at a Glance launched in Mumbai

 
The Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions along with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and the consulate general of the Kingdom of the Netherlands launched a brochure Holland at a Glance for the travel industry in Mumbai on November 5. Marijke A. van Drunen Littel, consulate general of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Pieter de Man, general manager, KLM and SanJeet, India representative of Holland Tourism, launched the brochure. Several leading travel trade companies marked their presence on the occasion.

Haryana ready with 4224 rooms for Commonwealth Games
 
Haryana is providing a major chunk of hotel accommodation for the Commonwealth Games. Sujit Banerjee, secretary, Ministry of Tourism, stated that as per a latest review, 6,632 rooms under the definite category and 2,161 rooms under the likely and doubtful category are being developed for meeting accommodation requirements of Commonwealth Games. Of the total of 6,632 rooms in the definite category, 4,224 rooms are already functional and 410 rooms are likely to be functional shortly. For the remaining rooms, the progress is being closely monitored.

Kerala Tourism holds roadshows in Scandinavian countries
 
M Sivasankar, director, Kerala Tourism, led a seventeen-member delegation of trade representatives, including hoteliers and tour operators, to the Scandinavian countries for roadshows. The roadshows, organised from November 2-5, were part of Kerala Tourism’s efforts to attract more tourists from the Scandinavian countries. In 2008, Sweden registered a 103 per cent growth in tourist arrivals to Kerala, while Denmark showed a 46.3 per cent increase in arrivals over the previous year.
