Air Arabia offers fares as low as Rs 3,037
from India to UAE
Air Arabia has unveiled exciting low
fares from across 13 destinations in India to its hub in Sharjah and onwards
to its 46 global destinations. These low fares come with the additional
benefit of free baggage allowance of up to 20-kg and a hand baggage
allowance of 7-kg. Air Arabia flies directly from its hub in Sharjah to
Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Jaipur, Kochi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Coimbatore,
Thiruvanathapuram, Hyderabad, Kozhikode, Delhi and Goa. The fares are
inclusive of all surcharges, excluding airport tax and fees, and valid till
March 31, 2010. New fares from India to Sharjah are INR 3,037, Kuwait,
Muscat, Bahrain–INR 3,780, Amman/Beirut/Damascus – INR 3982, Khartoum – INR
4117, Alexandria– INR 4387, Istanbul – INR 7222 and Kiev, Nairobi – INR
7357.

Jet Airways announces change of CEO
Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, chief executive
officer has resigned from the services of the company, effective October 15,
2009. Prock-Schauer will be rejoining his family in Europe and then will be
joining British Midland PLC (bmi) as its chief executive officer. He will be
based in UK. Effective October 15, Nikos Kardassis will take over as acting
chief executive officer of the company. Kardassis, who was formerly the CEO
of Jet Airways from 1994 -1999, brings with him a wealth of experience of
both the aviation industry and the financial services.

Air India to deploy new aircraft in all major
routes during winter schedule
In a bid to offer superior product from
October 25, Air india will deploy the B777- 300ER, B777-200LR to all its
seven west-bound destinations and one to Tokyo by replacing A330 and
B747-400. As a result, apart from the existing flights to New York, Chicago,
Frankfurt and London, the B777 will also be operational on Newark, Paris,
Toronto and Tokyo. The airline will also introduce a daily non-stop A319
flight between Chennai and Muscat. In addition, Air India Express flight
between Kozhikode and Muscat, and Kozhikode-Doha-Bahrain, will become daily
flight.

The Gateway Hotel signs up new property in
Shirdi
The Gateway Hotels checks
into one of the India’s most reverred cities, Shirdi. The Gateway Hotels has
signed a management contract to set up a 125-room hotel with
state-of-the-art banqueting, conferencing and meeting facilities on a
16-acre prime location in the town. With the addition of this property, the
total portfolio of Gateway Hotels increases to 32 from 26, when it was
launched a year ago. The hotel will be located 3.5 km from the main shrine,
1.5-km from the Shirdi railway station and 5-km from the proposed airport.

Square debuts in India
‘Four Points by
Sheraton Jaipur City Square,’ a newly built, 115-room hotel at Jaipur has
recently opened its door. The property, branded Starwood Hotels, will be
managed by JHM Interstate Hotels, a joint venture between JHM Hotels and
Interstate Hotels & Resorts, both US-based hotel management companies. The
hotel is strategically located at Tonk Road in close proximity to the

content
Amadeus has signed a worldwide agreement
with Virgin Atlantic to offer travel agents accessibility to the airline’s
full range of content. This agreement will enable over 20,000 travel agents
of Amadeus across India to get information directly from the airline’s
inventory. According to Amadeus sources, the full range of content including
fares, schedules and inventory will be available with no surcharge to travel
agents using Amadeus.

India and Saudi Arabia to discuss ways and
means to promote tourism on October 31
India and Saudi Arabia will deliberate on
promoting bilateral cooperation in the tourism and hospitality sector and
issues of mutual interest, particularly with regard to ways and means of
increasing tourism in both the countries at the joint commission meeting to
be held in Riyadh on October 31. Sultan Ahmed, union
minister of state for tourism and Salah K Al-Bukhyyet, vice president for
investment, Saudi Commission for tourism and antiquities held discussion on
increasing tourism in both the countries on October 5.

Foreign Tourist Arrivals to India decline by
4.1 per cent in September
There has been a decline
of 4.1 per cent in Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in September 2009 over
September 2008, as per the statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism. FTAs during the month of September 2009 were 3.17 lakh as compared to
FTAs (3.31 lakh) during the month of September 2008 and 3.02 lakh in
September 2007. FTAs during January-September 2009 at 35.75 lakh were
lower as compared to 38.71 lakh in January-September 2008.

India re-elected to the executive council of
the United Nations World Tourism Organisation
India has been re-elected to the
executive council of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO)
for another four-year term at the eighteenth session of the general assembly
of UNWTO, which was held in Astana from October 05-08. India is a
member of the executive council of UNWTO continuously for the last 19 years.
During this period, India has been elected to the chairmanship of the
executive council twice. The executive council is responsible for ensuring
that UNWTO carries out the work and adheres to its budget. It meets twice a
year and is composed of 31 members elected by the general assembly.
