Airlines carried 107.32 lakh domestic
passengers in 3rd quarter of 2009
According to the data published by the
DGCA office, total domestic passengers carried by the scheduled airlines of
India in the third quarter of 2009 (July to September 2009) were 107.32 lakh
as against 98.22 lakh during January to March 2009 and 109.38 lakh during
April to June, 2009. The break up of the passengers carried by the airlines
is as follows: Kingfisher – 24.65 lakh, Jet Airways –19.14 lakh, Air India
(domestic) – 18.00 lakh, IndiGo – 15.08 lakh, Spice Jet – 13.57 lakh, Jet
Lite – 8.18 lakh, Go Air – 6.15 lakh and Paramount – 2.16 lakh.

JetEscapes re-launched promising more options for

Jet Airways has re-launched JetEscapes.
This time, JetEscapes will be working closely with travel agents to give
impetus to their wide range of complete holiday packages. Priced at
competitive rates, travellers and agents will be able to book everything
from air tickets to hotel stay, travel insurance, sightseeing and
airport/local transfers. All Jet
Airways inventories will have JetEscapes packages. Agents and travellers
will have an option of selecting their choice of flights to the destination,
adding additional nights to their package and avail other optional offers as
per their convenience. An added advantage of booking through JetEscapes is
that travel insurance will be included in the package, which is inclusive of
air taxes and surcharges.

SilkAir increases frequency on
Singapore-Hyderabad route
SilkAir, the regional wing of
Singapore Airlines, has increased its flight frequency between Singapore and
Hyderabad from five times weekly to daily flights, effective from October 20. Its
scheduled departure from Singapore is at 2100 hrs and its arrival in
Hyderabad is at 2305 hrs. From Hyderabad, it departs at 0005 hrs and arrives
at Singapore at 0725 hrs. Hyderabad is the airline’s fourth Indian
destination after Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Coimbatore. The carrier now
flies 40 flights weekly between Singapore and India.

Owned by ITC, the much-awaited ITC Royal

Mixed fortunes for hotels across APAC:
Deloitte
According to a recent report by Deloitte,
the business advisory firm, the revenue per available room in Asia Pacific
dropped by 28.4 per cent to US$68 year-to-August 2009, while occupancy
dropped by 12 per cent over the same period last year. The report further
says that despite rivalling Europe for the steepest decline in hotel
performance globally, reductions in revPAR have eased in APAC since May 2009
with monthly drops less severe than the year-to-date decline.

Sarovar Hotel signs Vasundhara Sarovar Premiere in Vayalar
Sarovar Hotels & Resorts
recently signed its third property in Kerala, in addition to its two
properties, namely, Gokulam Park, Kochi and The Muthhoot Plaza,
Thiruvananthapuram. The new hotel has been signed with Vasu Coco Resorts Pvt
Ltd. and will be branded as Vasundhara Sarovar Premiere, slated for launch
by 2010. The property is spread on more than eight acres and is located on
the Vembanad Lake. The 50-room five-star resort is around 63-km from the
Kochi airport.

Clarks Inn Hubli in Karnataka opens door to guests
Clarks Inn Group of Hotels, which
operates under the aegis of UP Hotels Clarks, has recently opened ‘Clarks
Inn Hubli’, a 52-key four-star facility at Karnataka. The new property,
located three kilometers from the airport and railway station, has been
positioned as business boutique hotel. The hotel has two restaurants, a

Ministry of Tourism sanctions over Rs 130 crore to J&K for infrastructure development
To develop J&K as the most preferred tourist destination in India, the
Ministry of Tourism has not only been generous in granting funds, but has
also increased implementation period of a project funded through central
assistance. The ministry in the 11th plan has sanctioned tourism
infrastructure projects amounting to Rs 130.98 crore in J&K, which includes
financial support to 12 tourism development authorities. It has also
increased the implementation period to 36 months for centrally funded
projects in state keeping in mind the topography and difficult terrain of
the region, as to enable smooth completion of many of these projects.

Selja calls second review meeting to take
stock of accommodation development for CWGs
The Ministry of Tourism is taking
strenuous efforts to make CWG a grand success. It is not leaving any stone
unturned to ensure that all hotel projects coming up for the games are
completed by June 30 2010. On October 21, Kumari Selja, Union minister of
tourism, held a second review meeting to take stock of the said
developments. As per the figures revealed by MOT, there were 10,268
‘definite’ rooms and 1757 rooms available under the ‘likely’ category, out
of which 5645 rooms have been completed and rest are in advance stages of
progress.
