Mahan Air to increase flight frequencies from
Amritsar
Mahan Air will increase its flight
frequencies from three to five times a week from Amritsar effective October
21 aboard Airbus 310. This is being done to meet the ever increasing demand
from passengers, observed H.S Duggal (representative – India) Mahan Air. The
newly added flights on Amritsar-Tehran sector will have convenient
connection via Tehran to Birmingham, Düsseldorf and Dubai. Following the
launch of Mahan Air’s additional services on Amritsar-Tehran route, this
will be Mahan Air’s eighth weekly service out of India.

Domestic passenger traffic shows marginal
increase in August
There has been a
marginal growth in domestic passenger traffic in August as compared to July.
According to the statistics published by the Ministry of Civil Aviation,
total domestic passengers carried by the scheduled airlines of India in
August, 2009 were 36.30 lakh against 35.97 lakh domestic passengers in July.
Kingfisher carried highest number of passengers in July (8.20 lakh) followed
by Jet Airways (6.78 lakh), Air India domestic (6.04 lakh), IndiGo (5.05
lakh), Spice Jet (4.47 lakh), Jet Lite (2.81 lakh), Go Air (2.07 lakh) and
Paramount (0.74 lakh). Accordingly, percentage share of Kingfisher was 22.6
per cent, Jet Airways (18.7 per cent), Air India (domestic-16.6 per cent),
IndiGo(13.9 per cent), SpiceJet (12.3 per cent), JetLite (7.7 per cent),
GoAir (5.7 per cent) and Paramount (2 per cent).

The Travel Club to be inaugurated in London
on Sept 29
The Travel Club, a dream project of Tom
Nutley, former chairman, Reed Travel Exhibitions, will be formally
inaugurated on September 29. The ‘own house’ for the travel industry across
the world is located at St James Square (West End) in the heart of London.
It is the first dedicated private members’ club for the global travel and

Hotels run by entrepreneurs delinked from
high risk real estate biz
RBI has notified that the hotels being
run by entrepreneurs themselves will no more be under the purview of real
estate exposure for banks. This new relaxation would bring down the overall
cost of such hotel projects. The new notification released by the Reserve
Bank of India puts the hotels being run by entrepreneurs out of real estate
exposure category for banks. This new relaxation would enable hotels to
avail larger credits at better interest rates, which would help in lowering
the overall cost of such hotel projects.

The Ministry of Tourism has extended a
grant of Rs 12 crore to Chandigarh under the central financial assistance
scheme for upgradation of tourist facilities. D K Tiwari, managing director,
Chandigarh Industrial and Chandigarh Tourism Corporation (CITCO) informed
that CITCO has many ambitious plans such as to promote Chandigarh as the
most preferred golf tourism hub to attract domestic as well as international
tourists.

Tourism New South Wales concludes its
South Wales India Mission 2009 on Sept 18
Tourism New South Wales (TNSW) concluded
its three-city roadshow, New South Wales India Mission 2009 at Delhi,
Ahmedabad and Mumbai on September 18. A delegation of 23 New South Wales
tourism operators promoted Sydney and its surroundings to over 400 travel
agents and tour operators in these three cities. A one-to-one business meet
during the day was followed by evening cocktail and dinner to provide buyers
