Air India extends ‘Silver and Platinum Pass’ scheme till January 15
Air India recently announced the
extension of its short term promotion scheme, Silver and Platinum Pass with
an aim to offer air travel at a competitive and affordable rate. The passes
are available for sale at the offices of Air India and its approved travel
from September 21, 2011 and will be valid for travel up to January 15, 2012.
The Silver and Platinum Pass being offered in two variants for unlimited
travel in Economy and Executive Class on the domestic sectors of the
national carrier will now be valid for 15 days.

Air India Express to start direct flights from Muscat to Kozhikode,
Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi from October 31
Beginning October 31, 2011, India
Express is scheduled to operate direct flights from Muscat to Kozhikode
(seven flights a week), Thiruvananthapuram (four flights a week) and Kochi
(four flights a week). From Salalah to Kozhikode the airline will be
operating two flights a week and once a week to Thiruvananthapuram and
Kochi. In the winter schedule, Air India Express will rationalise its routes
between Oman and India, especially focussing on Kerala, to offer convenient
connectivity to passengers. The airline has also made a few changes in its
flight schedule from Oman to Amritsar and Mangalore.

IndiGo to start Mumbai – Muscat route from October 10
IndiGo Airlines has scheduled to
start its Mumbai - Muscat services from October 10, 2011 and is further
mulling to connect Muscat with Kochi, Thiruvananthpuram and Chennai from
this winter. IndiGo, which has a market share of 19.6 per cent in India, has
recently launched its international services with daily and direct flights
from Delhi to Dubai, Bangkok and Singapore. The initial response of the
flights has been good so far and the carrier hopes that it will be able to
replicate its domestic success in the international market as well. The
carrier’s expansion in the international skies will further consolidate its
position as the fastest growing low fare airline.

DGCA grants NOC to Paramount Airways to resume operations
Directorate General of Civil
Aviation (DGCA) has granted a NOC on September 21, 2011 to Chennai-based
Paramount Airways, subject to directions of the Madras High Court. The
airline said, "Paramount Airways, the only all Business class airline in the
country, received the final approval from the DGCA to resume operations.
Earlier the airline had received an approval from the Civil Aviation
Ministry for the import of 14 aircraft including A320s and Q400s from
Bombardier." DGCA had suspended the Chennai-based carrier's scheduled permit
last year as the airline did not have five aircraft as required by the
prevailing aviation norms.

MICEtalk wins Best Publication Award at the IATO Convention
MICEtalk was recognised as the
Best MICE publication at the 27th annual convention of the Indian
Association of Tour Operators (IATO), which was held at the Mahatma Mandir
in Gandhinagar recently. The award was presented at a gala evening, at the
Karnawati Club, in Ahmedabad, on the last day of the convention. It was a
well attended evening, with all attendees in a celebratory mood. The
MICEtalk team especially was all smiles at this recognition, which comes
within a year and a half of its debut on the list of travel publications.

Tourism infrastructure to get a boost under the 12th Five-Year Plan: Sahai
According to Subodh Kant Sahai,
tourism sector would be developed in a 'Big Way' in the 12th Five-Year Plan
to attract more international tourists in the country by creating best
infrastructure. Underlining the need to attract more number of international
tourists to the country, Sahai informed that the government would develop
best infrastructure for tourism sector on the Jawaharlal Nehru National
Urban Renewal Mission model. Sahai said that Andhra Pradesh is one of the
favoured destinations for tourists and would be allocated more share in the
12th five year plan for tourism development. He asked the concerned
authorities to prepare a master plan for tourism development for the
district including Araku Valley.

Indian Railways (IRCTC) to promote 10 tourist packages of Orissa Tourism (OTDC)
On September 20, 2011, IRCTC inked an MoU with the Orissa Tourism
Development Corporation (OTDC) to promote tourist circuits and destinations
in the state. IRCTC has identified a number of destinations to woo tourists
and offered 10 tourist packages to the OTDC in the first phase. The places
it would cover from Bhubaneswar include Goa, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Agra,
Rajasthan, Shirdi, Tirupati and Mathura for outbound tourists. For inbound
tourism, the OTDC has offered seven packages to the IRCTC, which would sell
the Golden Triangle comprising of Puri, Konark and Bhubaneswar as the USP of
Orissa Tourism.
